A baby blue Austin Metro pulls up to the local police station. The blue blends in perfectly with the chilly hues of that winter morning. An olive skinned young girl climbs out of the front seat. Her long brown hair goes in contrast with her green turtleneck and pink circle glasses. This little town in Indiana had been through serious traumas in the last three months. Everyone was a little weary of new problems that arose. Though the police station activity had recently slowed down. The girl strolled into the building, clutching a Polaroid in her right hand. She is greeted by an older woman with giant glasses at the front desk. A single phone rings in the distance, muffled tv can also be heard. The girl stands silently, taking in the busy …show more content…
Clay Allison was playing inside of her car. The alternative sound fit well with the older looking buildings. A movie theater caught her attention, giving her nostalgic feels. Though she hadn't seen many movies, she always felt comfort in them. She felt that no matter what terrible thing was happening in her world, many great things were happening elsewhere in movies. Shelley pulled into the parking lot to a diner that was close by. Her plan was to ask as many people as she could if they had seen Barkley. At least one of them would have had to caught a glance of him. Walking in she immediately got hit with a warm feeling. Not only on her body, but in her heart. Something about the smell of pancakes, the bright games in the back, and the chatter of each table made her feel at home. Looking around, she caught eyes with a blonde haired boy about her age. She felt that one of them should look away, but she couldn't bring herself to do it. The boy's green eyes lured her in. Shelley could feel every emotion going through his body. She saw he was happy, but also had a deep sadness within him. This feeling made her very curious. She finally was able to pull away and walk to the front counter. At 5:30 AM, the young, naive, Jenny Drpich is all dressed up finally ready to leave her home and head to her job for the first time. On her way, she grabbed a copy of West Australian newspaper, a leftover of cinnamon bun from last night and a freshly brewed cup of Long Black Arabica. These reminiscing values seem to ponder in her mind as she heads out of the driveway. It was a heinous drive from her house to the suburb.…

I looked over at Emma, who had ventured everywhere with me for the past three months. From camping, to roaming the streets at three AM, to Manitowoc and to who knows where else. We had spent nearly every day of the summer together. Then, my eyes scanned over to the guys. Both intently gazing up at the night sky, it hit me at that exact moment.…

Before acquiring a certain raven haired detective, the downtown GCPD was a busy little place, the kind of place that low end criminals sat in tiny cells and await with one another without having to deal with the nuts at Arkham. The weekend meant that cops officially had their hands full, and even if downtown GCPD was obscure and unknown, the swell of low end criminals brought to GCPD was enough to keep it running. The cells were small and old, and other than a decent view of the water, that was pretty much all it had going for it. The downtown GCPD was always dealing with something from the petty drunks to the common thieves.…

What happens when you put a big city girl from Dallas in a small town like DeRidder Louisiana? Absolutely nothing. But what happens when the small town has a colorful scary secret? They say curiosity killed the cat but they never said it killed a person and from that logic I turned this tedious town into one of the most engrossing towns in Louisiana. Every year my family and I drive six long and enervating hours to our cousin’s house in DeRidder, in a small cube like car, with two large brothers and me in the middle.…

I was 13 years old, just starting off high school, when I realized what this dark cloud that’s been floating over me for the past couple of months really is. It wouldn’t be until more than a year later until I seek out professional help. It started off innocently enough as just a feeling of constant emptiness at the pit of my stomach. It slowly turned into randoms bouts of extreme rage, where I’d take out my anger physically, not just on the walls and mirrors of my childhood home and not just on my family, but on myself. I couldn’t understand why I felt this way, why I wasn’t “normal”.…

We sat on the hot metal of the bleachers outside of the baseball field. The rainy days of Spring were replaced with the sweltering heat of the Summer, and hearing the clink of a baseball hit a bat in the Summer had become a tradition for almost five years. My older brother Dakota had spent those years being bombarded by sweat, mud, and the encouragement of his family, friends, and coaches when the team needed to hit a ball or when he wanted to show off how much better he had gotten since the last season. We were all ready for the season to be over so that we could plan our almost yearly trip to Virginia to visit our Aunt, Uncle, and our almost overwhelming blue-eyed cousins, Liam and Carlile. When the baseball season had come to a happy--or sad--ending, we would plan the trip and be piling into the car within the next week or two, to go on the getaway…

Growing up in a South Texas rural town comes with many perks and as well as disadvantages. One perk is the quiet openness of living outside a major city. The city being forty-five minutes away; there are no bright lights, police sirens, or even ambulances whizzing by at all hours of the day or night. If you happened to get pulled over, the police officer would dial up your parent’s phone number leaving you a ticket and an unpleasant conversation at home. In fact, we only had the one blinking stop light in the entire town!…

This is not the place you went to school in or every town you moved to, but the place where you really grew up in, the place you call home. Worland, Wyoming, made me into the person I am today because of living in the country, the type of school I went to and the way my family raised me.…
