SoSo Summer

To begin with, one sunny day in May, my mom said, “We are going to the SoSo Summer 17 Tour.”
I knew it was going to be so fun. A month later, it was time to go to the SoSo Summer 17 Tour. It was so hot outside, I wasn’t thrilled about the car ride to the theater downtown. I was so excited when we finally arrived there, but people were screaming like toddlers on Halloween night. Furthermore, it took a long while to get inside the big theater since we were early, my mom and I could see some rappers go to their tour bus. Soon, the security guards let us go inside to get our V.I.P tickets and wristbands. I got a pizza that was very hot, so I burnt my tongue.
The rappers came out three at a time giving everyone tight hugs.

Everyday after finishing my homework, I would go to the piano and pick up where I’d left off in “Sonate Pathétique” the previous night. It’d been a couple of months since the day I first played it, and I’d managed to greatly improve as a result of the countless hours I spent practicing. That night, I was determined to play through the entire first movement without committing a single mistake. Unlike many of my friends, I had a very meticulous mentality. Everything I did had to be done with the utmost care and precision because to me, nothing beat quality work.…

It was an early evening, there was red, green, and yellow feathers on the ground. I held a broom in my hand and after the parrot's screeching stoped it was replaced by crying and screaming. I then realized what I had done. El Perico, a parrot smuggled from Mexico by my friend Don Pancho, spent most of his time in a wire cage Roberto made for him. After awhile he grew accustom to us and began wandering around in our garage we lived in at the time while we harvested Mr.Jacobson's vineyard.…

A hemangioma is a benign tumor composed of blood vessels. One such tumor inhabits the back of my right eye known as the “macula” which is responsible for our keenest vision. As a result, I am legally blind in that eye. This condition is extremely rare as I have been told and as I can ascertain from a Google search for “macular hemangioma” that yields no relevant results. The discovery of this affliction has diverted my life’s path to a very unlikely place: The National Institutes of Health.…

Everybody has an identity, my identity was the musician. Since I’ve been in mariachi since 6th grade most of my classmates know me because of that. Music has always been an interest in my life since i was a little kid. I remember my dad gave me an Intocable cassette (mexican conjunto group). The very first song that came in the cassette was “El Amigo Que Se Fue” which talks about how the group lost two of the members when going to a concert.…

In the summer of 2011 when I was the age of thirteen, I was going to reach the biggest milestone in my life at that time; which was going to Nicaragua all by myself. I could remember the day when my dad booked the flight and thinking how my siblings and I were going to experience where my parents grew up and how things worked in their hometown. It was not until a few days later when my dad walked into my room; seriously but not furiously and said, “Son at your age you should feel so lucky that you guys have a better life than your mother and I had. The ticket that I bought, was for you and only for you; you are the only one going on this trip so then you know what your mother and I went through to be here to give you guys the life that we wanted as a kid.” At that time, I did not…

Rob and I found this beautiful Spanish style 20's club chair at Goodwill in the heart of Pasadena's antique row. It was like $180.00. We weren't sure if we LOVED IT, so we went and had breakfast to think about this purchase. We decided that we'd buy it if it was still there, and it was after several hours. We managed to squeeze it into our trunk with a the help of a random stranger, who used his new to him belt that he just bought to help tie it down.…

My summer at CDJ was a learning experience in every sense of the word. Every day I learned something new, whether it be a life lesson, general fact, and about the medical system or a new friend. One of my first lessons at Casa Juan Diego was solemn: not everyone can be helped, but you help all those you can. I learned this my first few weeks at Casa, when we were faced with a shortage of housing space. An influx of Cuban immigrants was arriving, which lead to overcrowding and full capacity while people waited outside.…
