Personal Narrative: Sonic Parking

Improved Essays
It all started when I was at sonic last week getting a drink with my mom. It had been raining all afternoon and I could hear thunder in the distance. Then all of a sudden the storm picked up. The lighting and the thunder got closer. My mom got worried and told me to get in the truck. I debated on listening or not. While i was taking my few moments to make this decision a bolt of lightning came crashing down and hit a tree right next to the sonic parking lot. All I saw was bright purple and white for the next few moments.
Within these few scary moment I went back 10 years, when I was only a little boy standing at my grandmother's funeral. As another evening thunderstorm boiled up in the distance, I stood there holding mom's hand, hoping

My dad came shooting out from the crowd with my mom in his arms. Even though the rain was beating down, he still ran faster than i’ve ever seen him run. At the time, I still couldn’t put together what had happened. Within 30 seconds my dad had mom laid down in the back of the truck and he had the car in reverse leaving the funeral. I looked back at my mom and she looked like she had been burnt. This is when I got scared. I asked dad what happened and he didn’t respond. I really didn’t know what to do, I wanted to help anyway I could. The hospital was only a few miles away thankfully.
We arrived and my dad opened the back, grabbed my mom, and made his way into the emergency room. My Aunt Elizabeth pulled up behind me and got me from the car. She was white as a ghost. We walked into the emergency room office and took a seat. I looked for mom and dad but they were nowhere to be seen. I leaned over and asked my aunt what had happened. She said “ Your mom was hit by lightning during the funeral, but she will be okay don’t worry”. I bowed my head and started crying.
I had realized at this moment that mom had potentially just saved my life. As I stand in that sonic parking lot debating whether or not I should listen to my mother, I realize she is possibly the reason I am still here this day. The emotional impact she had on me that day is unbelievable. On that rainy day my mother used her senses and sacrificed herself to potentially save my life and that is why she is my

Working in fast food can be a very trivial experience. I aspire to always put up my best front, and present myself to the world in a positive manner. However, working at Sonic Drive-In has taught me quite a few things. For example, profanities can spew out of your mouth at a record pace when you spill a vat of hot grease on yourself, you can step into the freezer and scream without the customers hearing you, and when you work with someone from 5p.m. to 2a.m. you learn a lot about them. Now, I am going to be honest, I have to be at work in an hour…
