Personal Narrative: Something As Extreme As Mass Hysteria

Decent Essays
I don’t think that something as extreme as mass hysteria could take place simply because no one wanted to think for themselves. Rather than people agreeing with a leader because they feel like it, I think people worry about an idea and “flock to follow” a leader because they don’t know what actions to take about the problem themselves. If someone offers a solution to a problem that they’re not sure how to fix, then they’re more likely to concede and follow that person. If someone didn’t care to think for themselves, then I don’t see why they would care to make any decision of that regard in the first place.

After watching some gameplay videos for the new ps4 game Until Dawn, I was reminded of a strange term I had once heard, the butterfly effect. Upon seeing this, I decided to do some research to find out more about it. The Chaos theory more commonly called the butterfly effect summarized by Edward Lorenz is a branch of mathematics that deals with complex systems whose behaviour is highly sensitive to slight changes in conditions, so that small alterations can give rise to strikingly great consequences. With this, I thought a many life decisions that I had made, both large and small and thought of how they affected my life and how different my life would be if I had chosen to take another path. I am a Christian and with further thought, came to…

Mob Hysteria is said to be one of the most influential ways of beguiling or causing others to become one person to another; this could mean a person can be perfectly healthy one day and be sick the next due to a disease that is spreading, or a person accusing another for a particular reason. For example, on January 30, 1962, three schoolgirls from a mission-run boarding school in Kashasha, Tanzania began laughing uncontrollably. within minutes, other students were affected by this contiguous laughter from the two students. The symptoms of this “infection” lasted a couple hours for most students, but for others, it continued up to sixteen days.…

Disbelieve and fear shook my mind as I lie on my back, sitting on top of concrete sandwiched in between the hot metal hood of a car, as the weight pressed down against me it didn’t hurt, my body was too numb to feel anything. All I could feel was a car pushing me further into the ground pushing my lungs down and shutting air out of it. It felt too surreal I kept blinking as if I thought I’d wake up from this mess. I could see sirens and people gathering around me watching in disbelieve, I kept fading in and out of conscience I felt like I was close to death.…
