Personal Narrative: Solar Panels

Decent Essays
Using an egg carton, bumper sticker, wire, a small motor and 2 small solar panels, I would create a fire starter. With this gadget, I would be able to provide warmth to those who can’t afford it in the winter. This would mostly help homeless people because they do not have shelter or proper seasonal clothing. I would attach the solar panels to the top of the motor using a piece of the bumper sticker. Then, I would transfer the energy created by the solar panels to the motor with a piece of wire. I would then coil a long piece of wire around the motor. I would make sure that the wire can be removed easily. I would leave the motor running for at least five minutes. If the motor isn't hot I would firmly attach the motor to a surface, and then

In the 1970s, Mike Lowery made a prototype for a whimsical-looking amphibious vehicle with a design flaw that, decades later, seeded his idea for a cheap hydro-power generator. His concept is called the Hydro-Electric Barrel, a floating water wheel that turns on top of a current to generate power using permanent magnet generators. Now, Lowery, a retired engineer and inventor, is looking for teams around the world to help develop prototypes.[3] From beach craft to generator, the idea started with a prototype of a light oneseater amphibious vehicle for recreation or rescue. It placed a driver between three large, plastic spinning spheres.…

My ideas by doing a solar oven is getting a box of pizza that is empty. When you have the box of the pizza you cut it and get aluminum foil to cover it up on the top. Then, when you do that you get another piece of aluminum foil to put it at the bottom of the pizza box. If we have to make the oven I will do it because it looks like a fun activity. It will work because the sun is going to hit the box and will hit the aluminum so it could heat up and cook.…

On a sunny and humid day one summer, I found myself in the Sunshine State, Florida. As I scanned for restroom signs on the side of the blistering asphalt, I turned from the safe, industriously spick-and-span interstate I was on, onto a narrow, unkempt, slightly muddy dirt road. The appearance of such a thing was surreal, this dirt road wasn’t carved out of the earth for tourism but it was a real path America’s ancestors had used. As I waded in the opposite direction of the freeway perfection, the charm of the road wore off. Its palette of colors included all sorts of mud-browns ranging from “a puddly day in the neighborhood with rainboots” to “the hole my dog dug in the backyard”, but also included more unpleasant notes like “splattering…

An airport is a great place to find lines of people that do nothing but have their heads glued to their phones while waiting for their flight. Sadly, I am of those mindless zombies, who sits at the tables with the provided charging ports with my phone in hand and my face staring blankly down at the screen. Often when I am in that position, I find myself scanning the environment to see people scramble in a rush to plug their phones in before it hit 0%. When I see people perform such actions, I often wonder, where does the electricity come from to charge those mindless media consumption devices? Here in Oregon, my home State which is known for constant rain, the electricity comes from a wide variety of resources such as coal and petroleum to nuclear energy.…
