Being from the small town of Cheraw, South Carolina has given me many opportunities to interact with those in the community. Growing up around many of these individuals resulted in developing different relations. Relations in terms of natural association with others. As a result of developing relations with different individuals in my hometown, I began to notice the socioeconomic challenges among them. These challenges including, but not limited to: financial crisis, family issues, and/or economic dilemmas. I can remember times I tried to help these individuals in any way possible to the best of my abilities. I realize I have approached adulthood with this same mentality. Therefore, it can be concluded, I was destined to choose a profession …show more content…
This was so they could possibly find more affordable housing. After doing so, my friend was able to find Greenbrier Apartments in Columbia, South Carolina. Surprised at how much cheaper these apartments were, my friend quickly applied for a space and was approved. Days later my friend began to face another dilemma. The person they originally planned to room with at Greenbrier Apartments had made other plans; leaving my friend to pay for an apartment they could not afford by themselves. Feeling hopeless, my friend began to feel they had no option but to move back home. I decided to make phone calls and inform others I was looking for a person interested in staying in a two-bedroom apartment. Luckily, I was able to find a person who agreed to live with my friend in this bedroom apartment and the two got …show more content…
This will require reorganizing my priorities. The greatest challenge I see moving forward into the program is being able to budget money wisely enough to suffice for the time period I will be unable to work. Funds will be limited, therefore, I will only need to spend money when necessary. A few transformations and developments about me over summer or maybe even the last time I thought about how much I have changed. One social transformation I went through would be a change of views on how I see the world, second would be my interest and hobbies, doing and liking things that I wouldn’t particularly thought I would even like or do. Lastly one thing that hasn’t really changed would be the love I have for my dearest mother.…

For me I felt taken back by this because growing up this was something I never had to worry about. Another way to see the socioeconomic difference was when it came to certain children having toys or clothing other kids didn’t have. Some of these children would make comments about how they couldn’t afford to have a phone or even a video game like the other kids at the club. Growing up I never felt this way, I always had everything I could have asked for and was constantly being spoiled by my family. The area where I volunteer had groups ranging from third to fifth grade and there were much more boys than girls.…

While we were completing the activity during class, I noticed myself contemplating past events and all the moments in life that have brought me where I am today. At first, I was scared to step forward or back because I did not want to be judge by my fellow peers and thought it wouldn’t matter if I moved or not. However, after the first couple of questions I decided to answer honestly and noticed how much I have been discriminated in my life due to my economic class and race. Growing up in my household, my family never had enough money to afford luxurious goods such as designer brand clothing and the newest technological items. At times, we didn’t even have enough money to afford crucial necessities such as food and basic school supplies.…

In my life there will always be obstacles; it is just a matter of when, how life altering they are, and the attitude I respond with. I faced my biggest obstacle, so far, the fall of my junior year. I tore my anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), and had to receive reconstruction surgery in October of 2016. During my therapy sessions following my surgery, when my therapist would give me a set of ten exercises to do ,and I would do fifteen. Each session wore me out to the point where my legs would be shaking and it was painful to walk up the stairs, but it was worth it to obtain my goals in the most efficient manner.…

Have you ever heard the saying, “life is hard, but we make it much harder” ; by Ryan Holiday? It is up to you to decide whether or not you want to succeed, and when you decide, it is up to you to figure out when you're going to make things happen. Everything and everyone is attempting to shape you out of your character, and it is up to you to decide what defines you, not what or who is around you. Becoming defined by the environment you were raised in, is basically becoming invisible. Meaning that you’re not noticed, people don’t see you.…

In life, we encounter a lot of challenges that can make life hard but also rewarding when we overcome these challenges. One of the biggest challenges in my personal life that I had was a few years ago. Growing up I was a very shy person and suffered from anxiety since I was in high school. The root of my anxiety is that I felt I had to be perfect in the eyes of my parents, siblings, and peers that viewed me as the "golden child". When I moved on my own to Tallahassee to study at Florida State University is where my anxiety increased.…

Growing up in the small town of Columbia City, I witnessed the crippling poverty of the people who lived there. Of course, I saw people who lacked the motivation to make their lives better. However, I also watched numerous people attempt to climb and claw their way out of the never-ending abyss of poverty; usually they fell further than they climbed. On a select few occasions, poverty-stricken citizens of this city have reached the top of the abyss and left their life of struggle behind. Witnessing these scenarios affect families in my hometown as I grew up prompted me to dream of ascending from poverty myself; however, it would require a long journey and hard work and determination throughout the process.…

Life is like a game of poker. In poker everyone is dealt the same number of cards from the same deck. Some are lucky and get a Royal Flush, some get a Straight, and some are only given a hand which consists of a High Card. Life is the same way except instead of diamonds; clubs; spades and hearts, everyone is dealt a certain level of “education, income, occupation, and wealth, the four commonly used criteria for gauging [social] class” (Scott and Leonhardt 117). Not all of us are able to choose our education, income, occupation and wealth, we are just given our hand and we have to make do with what we have.…
