Personal Narrative: Soccer's Influence On My Life

Everyone has a passion, and some even have more than one passion. Passions are not only a huge influence, but are a way of life. My passion is soccer. Soccer has been one of the biggest influences on my life. Although soccer is a very fun and entertaining sport to play, it also has some downsides, which have unfortunately affected me. It was the fall of 2012, and I played on a select travel soccer team called Tupelo Futbol Club (TFC). Our team was selected to play in a really big tournament in Memphis, Tennessee at Mike Rose Soccer Complex. We were to play two games on Saturday and, depending on how those went, we were to play up to two games on Sunday. The game times on Saturday were set for 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p,m. There’s no doubt in the world.” We were warming up for the first game, and our confidence level was through the roof. We hadn’t lost a game all year, and we were sitting on a perfect 10-0 record. There was no way we could lose a game. We dominated from the very first whistle. We jumped out to a 2-0 lead very quickly. It only went up from there, and we weren’t letting off the gas. We took a 4-0 lead going into halftime, and we were ecstatic. Everyone was happy to be there as well as to be winning at the break. During halftime, our coach told us, “Don’t get lazy now. Keep winning every ball, and finish every opportunity to score that you get.” We did just that by cruising to an easy 6-0 victory. After the game, the whole team went to get something to eat and also to rest up before the next game. We all knew that the next game was certainly going to be tougher than the first, but we didn’t let that faze us. We were now 11-0 and still as confident as we could be.
