Personal Narrative: So Ghostbusters

Decent Essays
So Ghostbusters is my favorite film of this year so far that I have seen. I could not stop grinning throughout the whole film. Just a big giddy grin. It is joyous, funny, and just wonderful. So incredibly refreshing to see a film about four female friends who talk about science rather than boys, who go out and be heroes in practical gear not skin tight catsuits. Who are absolutely never objectified. And a film where an a-list actor is cast as male eye candy. Rather then the women. A film about four nerdy women friends saving New York. With confidence and badassery. Plus Holtzmann oh beautiful perfect Holtzmann. Shame Sony wouldn’t let them truly say it. But god damn she is beauitfully wonderfully queer. Holtzmann is quite possibly one of my

The 1990s were arguably the best time for Romantic Comedies and also the birth era of the popular “chick-flick.” The ‘90s brought us directors like Gary Marshall and Nora Ephron whose feel good films left our hearts warm and stars like Julia Roberts with her clumsy relatability and Richard Grere with his suave demeanor. The ‘90s also brought Kathy Maio, feminist film critic. Maio’s 1991 book Popcorn and Sexual Politics is a collection of analysis of popular ‘90s films—especially Romantic Comedies. Popcorn and Sexual Politics aims to examine the role and portrayal of women on screen.…

The Zombie Apocalypse is an event I feel I've been prepped for my entire life. Assuming typical scary movie rules apply: in order to survive I must find a rag tag group of people who are sane as well as very skill at using weapons. To help prevent being that that cliché person that trips, my team and I would raid a shoe store for well fitting, non slip shoes. Next we would wear various layers of coats just in case if we were caught, zombies would struggle to get to our flesh and we would have time escape from their grasp. Next we would travel north and go to a region that was not very populated prior to the apocalypse.…

We had been attempting it for months. We never thought that we would get far at all. The only thing that I knew was that it was going to be tough, tougher than finding a string of hay in a stack of needles. I had the entire match set up. Every player was ready, I made sure all our internet signals were wired in correctly and would not disconnect.…

Having a paranormal experience can be bloodcurdling, but it can also be a phenomenal experience to look back on. When I was about thirteen years old, I had my first experience with a Ouija board. A Ouija board is used to communicate with people that are no longer among the living. I was with my uncle Elvis, who is my mother’s brother. My uncle took me to his friend’s apartment, and at that moment he pulled out what appeared to be a very ancient Ouija board.…

If you've been on Twitter, Facebook, any number of clickbait websites, you've probably noticed that the new Ghostbusters trailer has been posted. I have been pretty indifferent to the whole thing ever since the original cast has pretty much had nothing to do with it. The big thing that will slap everyone that has a criticism about the film is that the new cast is female. That has nothing to do with a movie being good or not. Sure, there are probably those Men's Rights douche bags that will complain that it should be an all male cast, but the thing about that is no one cares about what those people have to say.…

The Arrival I had originally planned to travel to Rio on September 5th through September 12th. A perspicacious and experienced hunter named Rainsford accompanied me. It was nighttime when I first spotted land of any sort. It was vaguely visible and was opaque, so misty that even Rainsford couldn’t see it. Utterly tired, I began drifting off, dreaming of the adventures we were soon to face.…

The day began much the same as any other – meaning I managed to stumble out of bed and drift through the menial tasks of the morning, but little else. In short, nothing terribly interesting happened beyond the fact I didn’t singe my eyebrows off or burn my home down in an effort to cook breakfast. Actually, considering my zombie state of mind, I completed my chores with a shocking amount of success. An achievement, I must admit, that inspired me to journey beyond the walls of my safe little box yet again. I set out fairly early, this time determined to explore the area closer to my oh-so-humble abode, curious as to what riches I might find.…

Say what want needs to be said about the original. Does it live up to the hype or is it overrated and its humor was just lost to time? But, if anything bad is said about the remake there could be a swarm of angry feminist ready to disagree with such a sexist statement. Whether or not you believe the 2016 rendition of Ghostbusters was actually a good film has been placed on the back burner for the hotter issue of sexism in modern America. People commonly associate negative feelings towards this movie as a statement against women.…

In the 2016 comedy film, Ghostbusters, four unexpected heroines work together to save the world from malevolent paranormal beings. Using science as their weapon, unlikely partners Erin Gilbert, Abby Yates, Jillian Holtzmann, and Patty Tolan join forces to defeat the woefully misunderstood mastermind behind all of the mischief, Rowan. This film has attracted a great deal of attention and controversy, and for what reason? The major stars of the movie are female. Many naysayers are outraged at the fact that the heros of the film are women, especially because in the original movie, the stars were predominantly male.…
