Personal Narrative: Skipping Out Of College

Improved Essays
Skipping out on college is not an option for me; it’s completely out of the picture. Having said that and looked through charts to see the differences of life with and without college, it solidified my decision in going. I have personally seen two of my siblings drop out of college and watched their life unfold. It’s not a bad life, but it’s also not one I would choose to live. I’ve seen both struggle with money and that is an issue I do not wish to have in my future. By going to college, I can increase my chances of avoiding that issue and live comfortably instead. I would like to have a life where I can live comfortably and do the things I dream of doing now. If I don’t go to college, I would never have a chance at my goal. I wouldn’t have

Like Matt Walsh, I feel that not everyone is meant for college. Some, like Walsh don’t like, or don’t want to go through a more stressful, and difficult version of high school. It was hard enough the first time. By not going to college you can avoid the inevitable debt, and pointless piece of paper degree, that holds no value. College is meant for people who need or want a degree that is required for a job.…

Transitioning from high school to college is difficult. There is a huge increase in amount of homework. Quizzes, tests and midterms are harder compare to high school. Writing at the college level is difficult for me because English is my second language. Figuring out what I was planning to major in was the hardest part because I entered college not knowing what I was interested in doing.…

“I know applying to colleges is the last thing you want to do right now, but you might change your mind,” a trusted friend told me. It was December of my senior year of high school, and college application deadlines were approaching quickly. I was recovering from a major illness at the time, and wasn’t ready to think about college. My plan was to spend a year living at home and working before I pursued higher education. In the following months, my recovery progressed rapidly.…

A dilemma that I faced, and still am facing is simply the decision about what I want to do with my life after my high school career. In my freshman year of high school my goal was simply to get through the year in one piece. I was forced to conform to my new environment and all the strict rules that came along with it. Along with that it was the sudden transition from being the "big dogs" as eighth graders at my middle school to being "fresh-meat" in my first year high school. With so much attention placed on me as a freshman like on the varsity basketball team, where I was constantly forced to prove my worth to the coach and the players, to stepping out of my comfort zone and performing in a mandatory play for the rest of the the school as…

My decision to attend HACC was due to financial needs. Originally, my educational plan was to attend Penn State Harrisburg as a double major in Political Science and Psychology, to which I have already been accepted. However, the opportunity to attend a community college with a very strong relationship with my main institution was one I could not pass, especially given the lower cost of attendance and high transferability of credits. My goal is to transfer or graduate from HACC without having accumulated debt so that my time at Penn State Harrisburg will go smoothly and be most worthwhile. I feel fervent that I have made the best decision for my current life situation.…

Now on the surface this may seem like a step backwards as to why people don’t want to go to college, but it’s a reason in and of itself. Some people have a path in life they want to go down, and college may not lead them any farther or closer to their goal so they decide not to go as they find no use for it at the moment. I myself am very capable of going to college, yet the way my career works doesn’t require that I go to a college, only that I provide for myself and my family with enough time in my day to pursue my passion as an artist. Not every reason for not going to college is purely logical or explainable. Sometimes it’s as simple as, “I’m not going to college because I just don’t want to go to…

During when I was in middle school I had to make many choices on what I was doing. Some choices that I’ve made during my middle school days were not good. One day my friends and I had agreed on leaving school and go to a friend’s house and just chill there playing games and having fun. We all have setbacks from time to time, sometimes even when we like nothing can go wrong, life can take us by surprise. My major setback was out of my control, and it discouraged me for some time. During the middle of my sophomore year, I was in a horrific car accident. I had cuts and bruises, but the main problem was my severe concussion. I had trouble remembering things, and sitting in certain lighting would sometimes be unbearable due to my light sensitivity.…

You grow up being told you have to go to college. Parents make it seem like without college you will not be able to live the life you want. To tell you the truth I think going to college is really up to us. I am pretty sure everyone wants a good life in their future and I think by going to college it will help them guide themselves to a brighter future. I have read articles about those who choose not to attend college and for the majority, their reason for doing so is usually because of lack of funding, the need to support the household, the want to pursue a passion, or perhaps a combination of those mentioned. Some also find colleges lacking in fundamental principles. This is because “more fundamentally, now as ever, somebody has to actually do things: fix our cars, unclog our toilets, build our houses” (Source A). While it is true that there is a need for manual trades, one shouldn’t forgo the idea of college just because of this. Higher education does still provide a hands-on learning approach through many opportunities through study abroad programs and…

I could just hear the words hollering through my ears, over and over. The slight echoes that can still be heard moments after the words were spoken as my cousins spoke their rage about school. While they may have had a chance to finish their education, they never bothered to. Simply because they got tired of being told what to do, and thought they earned enough with their part-time job and asked themselves, what good is a high school degree? That’s what I saw over the years, one by one I would see them drop out, struggle financially and emotionally.…
