Mackie 's PoV If I could walk to school without Houston cracking puns every step of the way, I 'd be severely worried about him. Thankfully, that hadn 't happened and I could enjoy them throughout the twenty minutes we had until school started. The sky was dark and it started to rain. I walked faster. Houston brought his jacket over his head. I interrupted him before an especially bad pun. "You know what day it is?" I asked as we walked around the school. "Of course," he said, "You know the plan right?" I nodded. We had separate objectives. Houston was supposed to do something big to distract everyone from what I was doing. He hadn 't told me what he was doing, which made me think that he didn 't have a plan. I was worried about …show more content…
We would like to offer your student a place at our boarding school, Mason County Academy (MCA). At our school, your student can complete their high school years and progress to college if they like. Our program helps students get back to school after being expelled (unless, of course, they did something to threaten a peer or staff member.) We understand how hard it can be to get your student back in school. Please reply to this letter as soon as you can for more information. We hope to see your student at MCA. Sincerely, Principal Mallory

I was surprised. I didn’t think there was a school like that. I gave the letter to my mom and raised my eyebrows at her. Confusion grew on her face, and I realized that she didn’t apply for me. Some school found out I was expelled, got my records, and invited me to live there. “Do you want to go?” She asked, arching an eyebrow. I didn’t know. I wasn’t just about to go to a school I knew nothing about. Who knows what it could be like. I didn’t even know where it was. But I did need to get back to school. “Maybe,” I told her. She tilted her head to the side, and bit her lip. She spoke up after a long pause. “I’ll send a letter back.” I nodded and went to my bedroom. I laid down and fell asleep, thinking about the invitation.

Failure is like a unicorn, we read about it in stories, see in on tv, but we've never encountered one in our everyday life. Have you ever seen failure in its true form? Unlike many of my peers, my life story is slightly different. Many of my peers share the story of living in a single parent home, being homeless, violence, and poverty. However, in my case, living in a two parent household is strange to hear about to my peers. For me, living in a two parent household means more work because of my desire to receive a full scholarship. Upon my research, I noticed that many of my older peers would receive better college financial opportunities because of their life experiences.…

I was afraid to sharpen a pencil in second grade. My most vivid elementary school memories spring from instances when I was being reprimanded by an adult for doing something wrong. I did everything in my power to avoid those dreadful moments, but they still presented themselves on occasion. Even now I feel a pit in my stomach when I recall the way I felt during those times, regardless of the fact that almost all of them would easily roll off my back if they occurred today.…

During my senior year at North Miami Beach Senior High School, I contemplated on where I would transfer to start my collegiate studies. I considered many different universities and colleges, weighing out the positives and negatives in attending each of them. However, there was one that remained as the most impressionable college: The Honors College of Miami Dade College. My older brother had joined the Honors College and continually remarked on how they changed his life and helped him grow both mentally and financially. He began speaking to me about the Honors College when I was a freshman in high school, and I worked tirelessly to be considered acceptance into this rigorous program.…
