Personal Narrative: Shopping For Food

Decent Essays
Also, I was correct. That is my sign to leave, yet not before I fix myself something to eat. I begin going through the cabinets and discover nothing. This man truly needs to go shopping for food. I look in the fridge and there's nothing in there. At that point I look in the cooler and there's a bag of fish sticks. This is going to have to do for now. I put the pack of fish sticks on a counter and snatched a plate out of the cupboard. I get a handful bunch of fish sticks, stick them on the plate, and put the plate in the microwave. I learned this trick from all the times where I was constantly home alone and didn't have anything else to

I knew Red Lobster was a bad option. I wanted to go to Outback Steakhouse, but mom had her way, even on MY high school graduation. I was stuck, sitting in the booth, waitress staring at me for 15, 16, 17 seconds now. Sitting in my cap and gown, she asked again – “where are you going to college?” I’d prefer the Bloomin’ Onion to this any day of the week.…

That was until I found a recipe on how to make some chocolate chip cookies and said, “I can totally do this!” an hour and a half later, (yes ... I struggled) and with some guidance of my mother, a batch of cookies popped out of the oven. I was scared at first to let anybody try them because they looked quite horrid, but as soon as the first daredevil, my older brother, tried this twelve-year-old’s cookies he immediately smiled, shoved the remaining cookie into his mouth, and grabbed another two.…

I would visit Applebee’s again for several reasons; it is affordable, causal, and the food is really good. As a college student, the first thing that I consider before eating out is how affordable the place is. Compared to Olive Garden, I would say that this restaurant is a lot less formal, less costly, and a lower food quality. Overall, my experience was fun and enjoying because I felt relaxed sitting, laughing, and eating with my friends. When come back next time, I may try a dessert.…

The Hunted I didn’t know who I was. I woke up next to a bunch of muddy kids. They all smelled like they haven't showered in weeks. There was two twins, a chubby kid, and probably the skinniest kid I’ve ever seen. Then I realized I smelled just like them.…

Untrustworthy Cashiers Target, a seemingly innocent store is actually bustling with thieves and I happen have first hand experience. The story begins when my brother and I were inside Target and waiting in line to checkout. When it was my turn to pay, I pulled out my wallet and handed the cashier my money. I then absentmindedly set my wallet on the counter and pulled out my phone-- this proved to be a grave error. The cashier then handed me my change; I grabbed my items and proceeded to head out the door.…

The Hunt I am all warm in my camo attire with my bow hugging the tree behind me. I watch as sky comes to life and leaves crunch as the dew falls on them. My father sitting at my right side, dozing, his head bobbing every once in awhile. I hear the faint noise of something crunching and look above me to see a squirrel perched on a small branch. I smile and nod my head letting out a faint chuckle.…

One Saturday afternoon, my fiancé came home sweating profusely from playing basketball and asks, “Babe, teach me how to cook curry chicken, pleaseeee.” I responded, “You’re kidding right? As a kid, I had no responsibilities other than school, and sometimes sports. I was fortunate enough to not have to do chores, or have a job at an early age. I essentially, could manage my time how I pleased; playing Xbox, baseball, being on my phone whenever, as long as I kept my grades up and wasn't in trouble. My parents gave me this privilege, because they knew what a well-behaved kid I was, and somehow trusted that my Dad’s work ethic would eventually just naturally rub off on me when the time was right. Although my experience sounds great, I felt empty, because I wasn't doing anything productive.…

The Sunday after Thanksgiving, I rather spontaneously---or perhaps, I’d like to think, by the work of the Holy Spirit---got on a night bus and went to church. I arrived at St. Mark’s Cathedral to a contemplative Eucharist in their beautiful chapel. It was soft and lovely and quiet. I love the quiet. I sought it out when I came to college in Seattle, living in “the big city” for the first time this fall, more than a little overwhelmed by the sheer number of people everywhere.…

It’s the first day of spring break, and I got up at 5:30. My parents asked me if I really wanted to go, and I said yes. Today is supposed to be our drive to San Francisco for vaca, but I decided to wake up early and volunteer at a food bank for a few hours and then go with my family. The food bank is called “God’s Pantry”, which is an organization created to spread the belief of Christianity through passing out food for people in need.…

The Trip to the Grocery Store I haven’t seen him in weeks or maybe even months, I thought as I glared across the small distance between where I was standing and my dad’s car. With my One Direction CD clutched in my hands, I started to close the distance by walking towards his car. I opened the door and slipped in, and then he started to drive to the grocery store. At the time I was under the illusion that my dad would be even slightly happy to see me, but no.…

While doing my weekly shopping, a task I rarely enjoy, I started looking at the endless rows and rows of products, their brands, brightly coloured images, fancy fonts, different size and shape packages all jostling from my attention and ultimately my wallet. As food shopping is one my least enjoyable activities, I decided to occupy my mind and stopping it going into “screen saver” mode by looking closely at the symbiotic relationship that underpins this ecosystem. Like all successful symbiotic relationships, each party does something that benefits the other party, supermarkets provide the outlet display and sell the goods and a mean to collect the payments, food manufacturers provide the goods that supermarkets need to attract customers and…

We have all experienced our fair share of pleasant and unpleasant shopping experiences. Most of these memories from these experiences fade over time. However, some of these experiences are so phenomenal or extraordinary they have a lasting impression on us. On the other hand some of them are so unpleasant or foul that they leave us with a bad image of a once favorite store. I can recall one shopping experience that was horrendous.…
