Personal Narrative: Shanon's Play

Improved Essays
“I am not an ACTOR!” is what I would say everyday in class. Then when I heard we HAD to perform for class, I was scared and even more so like “Yeah I can't do this”. Then I talked to some of my friends and the boosted me up giving me a little bit of confidence. When it came time for auditions I was beyond nervous, but I knew I had to get casted, so no matter what I had a part. I got casted in Shanon’s Play Broken, I played Character A and Jess was Character B. I struggled alot, I was always frustrated because I couldn't figure out my lines, I could not connect on the level of terrified my character had to be, and I couldn't get into the acting zone. Eventually I got it, and the play went great, Shanon and Jess expressed how happy they were of me, and that made me feel really good inside. …show more content…
That was the easiest rehearsal of them all, no blocking, and of course no off book. The second rehearsal we jumped right into things and I couldn't really quite grasp what my character was going through, or get the feeling of having broken ribs down. But as I worked in and out of rehearsal I got the hang of everything.
We didn't have many rehearsals, so that meant I had plenty of work to do own my own which was hard to accomplish without feedback. I got some criticism from my friends, their advice was really helpful. They told me to spend time in a dark room with scary prison noises before rehearsal to get in the mood. Also that I was talking way too fast to have my ribs broken and that I should slow down my sentences. So made sure I tried it in rehearsal and it really helped me. Now by this point my confidence level was at an six out of ten compared to the first day which was a zero out of

I believed what others said and that caused to date the biggest regret I have. The part was given to another girl who was in the program and I acted like it did not bother me. My family did not end up moving, so I would have been able to do the play. That is what leaves a sour taste in my mouth that I could have successfully played the part, and executed the role better then the other girl who’s singing voice was not as powerful as mine. I did learn from this experience that I should go for the things I wish to and not to let my suggestion or others hold me back.…

Through my attendance of a rehearsal a few weeks prior to the performance I garnered a general idea of what to expect. Throughout the duration of the rehearsal most of the actors seemed extremely familiar with their roles in terms of lines and stage directions. Most of the rehearsal was just making small tweaks to make the actors more comfortable and working on the fluidity of the stage directions. For example working on certain stage directions so actors were not in the way of each other when another actor had a stage direction. I approached this experience with a very open mind, and the time spent learning about theater in the classroom helped immensely with the understanding of this production.…

In 2012 I arrive at a place called First Stage at 3:30 in a room filled with over 150 kids. I have to check in at a desk and a lady takes my picture and then gives me 2 forms to fill out. I give them to my mom as I am too jittery to write or even think. I’m auditioning for a play called To The Promised Land, and I’ve fallen in love with it’s script. At this moment there is nothing more that I want them to be cast as the main character named Ruth.…

Clearing the entrance was fairly easy, we soon got it cleared and entered the church, I found brother martin inside, and while he was very sceptical of my claims, he agreed to come to Weynon priory and speak to Jauffre. Savlian asked for help to take the next stage of the town, but I said I must get martin to Weynon priory first, then I would come and help further, he agreed to give the men a rest and wait. The civilians in the church were very grateful for my assistance as they started to evacuate the city, when I explained to Savlian why I needed to get martin there he agreed and provided a carriage. On arrival the first thing I saw was more assassins like those who had attacked us in the sewers, the mythic dawn, a bad sign to be sure. We managed to kill the leader and save Jauffre, he’s quite good in a fight, and it appears they have come to the priory for the amulet of kings.…

The Delusive Dramatist from Myslenice The girl sat in the corner of the train car, she rotated from rocking herself back and forth in a fetal position and singing to herself softly. Every once in awhile she would pull out her notebook and scribble in it, only when she was sure that no one else was looking, or so she thought. All hours of the day she spoke to herself, setting a tense scene, I could feel the lies as she spoke them, nothing she told herself was true. She knew it, I knew it, but it seemed to be the only thing she had left.…

They called my name, in a haze, I got up and went to my spot. I felt the stares of the parents and the judges. It was a true test of my focus and confidence, checking whether I could do my forms and combinations with the distractions sitting around me. I tried to do my best from what I could remember from class, but as I began the moves slowly came back to me like I had known how to do it the entire time. When I finished, they saved the hardest part of the test to the end, board breaking, where we had to break wooden boards to show our physical strength.…

We would block and work through parts at the same time. Personally, I found it more difficult that way. Notes didn’t sink in as much because they were piled in with blocking. There were times where we’d goof off too much, and, in the end, that really hurt us because our cue pickup wasn’t as strong as it could be. Also, with three of us being in Chalk Circle, the lines weren’t memorized as soon as they could have been because our attention was divided.…

I once was young boy with big dreams; I wanted be be a “star” and be on the big screen. How great would it be having hundreds of people yelling your name and taking your picture? All I ever wanted was to help, inspire, and encourage others; having people wanting to be you and being moved by your actions and person. My real start to acting came a little later than I hoped, it wasn't until 2010 when I realized I really wanted to act, I remember the day so clearly; I was downstairs doing some of my “grade 6 school work” when my mom called me upstairs to show me an ad in the paper for munchkin auditions for The Wizard of Oz at Theatre Ancaster.…

Rehearsals are by far my favorite thing that we have done so far in class because a lot of the time students, myself included, will perform with a lot of needed improvement, but during a short amount with the right instruction of time there an actor can create a feeling in the audience that was not present during the first reading. This transformation is absolutely magical to watch and amazing to experience. During the classes that were instructed by our guest professor, Austin, who is an absolutely amazing actor and instructor we got the opportunity to dive into the poems for rehearsal. What made the experience with Austin so awesome is that instead of each one of us performing an being give the same, or even similar, critiques he let us perform and gave us each a completely different and unique critique that was individual to our specific poem. For one student he would have them do a lot of visual and imagery work while other he had others physically fighting one another to achieve an end goal at the other end of the room.…
