Personal Narrative: Senior Year

Improved Essays
During junior year winter break while browsing Georgia Tech website, I encountered two figures 32% and 25%, the year 2015 and 2016 freshman acceptance rates. The huge 7% rate drop challenged me immensely, making me uncomfortable, shattering my chance to be a proud Yellow Jackets.

Descending acceptance rate inspired me to focus on what I wanted to accomplish, despite how uncomfortable I felt. As the spring semester progressed, I worked rigorously on my AP courses and scored perfect in SAT Math and SAT subject tests. Perseverance, motivation, and hard work helped me tremendously to maintain ascending GPA during the spring semester and boosted my confidence to continue a similar trend in the senior year.

With this experience, I learned how important

"Success is the result of perfection, hard work, learning from failure, loyalty and persistence" I have had many ups and downs over the course of my life thus far. One specific example of this took place during my freshman year of high school. When I started high school it was very challenging for me, partially due to the fact that; during this time, I was lazy, unmotivated and did not really take school seriously. This by far is one of my biggest regrets to this day. Who would ever think that not trying during my freshman year would continue to follow me throughout the course of my academic career.…

Pre-Experience Journal Entry I was born to be an engineer. I grew up playing math games, building lego sets, and taking apart electronics. My Senior Capstone Experience (SCE) will definitely be in the area of engineering. More specifically, I would love to do either computer science or electrical engineering, as these are the areas I want to major in when I go to college. I came to GSMST because I have always had an interest in engineering, and GSMST has only made that interest stronger.…

Though I love everything that I do, My favorite thing I do is work up at an all boys camp in Rhinelander, Wisconsin called Camp Deerhorn. Every year that I travel up to camp, I look forward to meeting new people and forming some new friendships. In my room I have a plaque that reads “Camp Deerhorn Creed.” It was written by the founder of Camp Deerhorn, Dr. Don C. Broadbridge in 1930, and it lists out 13 of the most essential and important ways on how to act in order to become a gentleman. My two personal favorites are “Too spread sunshine and good cheer, just for the fun of it.”…

My freshman year of college I struggled greatly with the cost of college. I had moved out of my mother’s house and was living with my grandmother. I worked a part time job of 15 hours while taking 19 hours of school. Because I did not have my own place I was still considered under my mother’s income. My mother does not make very much money.…

Dear University Honors Program Appeals Committee, I would like to thank you ahead of time for taking the time to review my appeal. I fully understand the selectiveness of the honors program (especially for CSE) as well as respect the initial honors decision based off my initial application. However, there is new academic information that I believe warrants a reconsideration for my admission into the University Honors Program. Specifically, this new academic information is my performance during the 2016 fall semester as well as my academic pursuits outside of my high school curriculum.…

The day of August 27, 2012 I was officially titled a freshman. One look down those unknown red and blue walls, will forever change my perspective of high school. There was an instant moment of disbelief in my freshman, I was terrified, and no thought came to mind as to how I was going to survive high school for the next four years. Of course I knew it'll be different from my tiny middle school, but will it be like the cliché movies about the upcoming of age, or resemble the happiest times of life. From that first day, I knew I wasn’t like everyone else.…

The past seventeen years of my life led up to this momentous month--this month that decided my future: the people I would meet, the caliber of the education that would serve as a foundation for my future, and even perhaps the connections that would serve me further along the road. It was with this knowledge that, at the start of the application process, I knew UC Berkeley was my top choice. Everything was superior, and not a single aspect that I valued was missing from its campus. The weeks where I was accepted and rejected from multiple colleges held little, if any sway on me as I waited for Berkeley’s fateful decision date. And in the days leading up to it, I was not sure what to expect, but I prayed for an acceptance.…

If this study were to be performed again it would be interesting to run a restricted model with domestic students to see how the model changes when high school GPA is used as an independent variable. This would likely result in more predictive power. The results of this study support BYU-Idaho’s current model of admissions practices. That is for BYU-Idaho not to enforce strict deadlines for applications, but rather allow students to apply at any time, admitting them to the school on short notice at times. This allows students to begin their education with little notice, with no major effect on their GPA.…

f looking at primarily grades or test scores, the somewhat recent method of aggregating all of an applicant’s attributes has made Lafayette College a more progressive and diverse school. Admissions officers have also developed a more fox-like approach to prospective students. With the progressive ability to understand that a student is more than just one attribute, admissions officers use observation, intuition and tolerance when making decisions. The college admissions process continues to change because of the growing belief in the two themes, which can only increase the quality of life for students and colleges alike.…

If my motivation and work ethic changed during my freshman year, I would have a higher GPA today. For the spring semester, my midterm exams are in March.…
