Personal Narrative: Self-Esteem In High School

As I walked down the hall, I could not stop smiling as I waited to go in the classroom and meet my new teacher. With my head hanging, I started hearing a group of my classmates laugh and when I looked up I realized I was the joke. Tears began to flow down my cheek and run off my face, one of my classmates asked, “what's wrong?”, and as I began to think about it I cried even more. “I hate being here, I feel so out of place, I don’t understand why everyone hates me!”, the little voices in my head said as I started to get bullied in sixth grade. Getting bullied played a major part in who I grew up to be. The more I got bullied and the more my “friends” fed me lies, my mentality on life and my self-esteem started to deteriorate. This carried on with me through high school and it took a while to finally find my true self. Throughout middle school I was constantly looked down upon, treated as if I was not good enough due to my different appearance. I could still remember the little voices saying, “you’re so stupid, you’re not even pretty” which led to my low self-esteem. The bullying was ongoing and it never stopped, which is when I hit rock bottom. I remember calling my father and crying, “Dad, I cannot do this anymore, I want to leave and get away from everyone now.” That was the worst phase of my life, and I became …show more content…
I was able to learn that although life may not be easy, giving up was never the answer. I would gain so much more fighting through the hard days, than giving up and gaining nothing. This new mentality and view of life has helped me get through many hard days. Due to the change, and experience I am certain that I would like to become a Nurse. Nursing is not an easy profession, but I know that if I stay strong and not give up I will be able to deal with anything that life brings my way. Now I can only hope for the best, and I know it is yet to

Looking back on it, on how I got to where I am. I don't know how i did it, when you run into something ,with the power to knock you down- you get back up! I've considered myself a sort of mellow guy, but I can be very intense. It's funny because you can't tell by looking at me. Most people say they can't read me, but I think i am a fairly simple guy.…

The hardest thing I’ve ever went through? Let me take you back to almost three years ago to a very cold Thursday morning in January. I was sitting in history class when suddenly something very strange happened; the announcement speakers came on. To most people it would seem like it was a very typical day to day event to listen to announcements; but at my school announcements were rarely ever said. My classroom got completely silent; to the point where you could have heard a pin drop.…

Before high school, I always thought I was an average student, but when I transitioned into high school, people started to point out that I had potential. I began to work harder than I had ever before and I began to accelerate in every course. This never took a toll on me till the tenth grade, when my mental health started degrading. Anxiety was my first foe. During the beginning of the tenth grade, I had set high expectations for myself and it began to affect my life greatly For instance, after finishing the test, I would think about just one specific question that I thought I completed wrong.…

After reading Jeannette Walls’ Glass Castle, I realize that she and I have a lot in common. From her parents arguing to her being bullied at school to her father dying, she went through a lot of situations that resemble some of the less known and serious problems that I had while I was about the same age. Jeannette had a tough life while growing up. However, even though I had similar issues, I lived and still live a relatively sheltered life. I, like her, simply viewed everything that happened as normal and didn’t realize that it was abnormal until I got into fifth or sixth grade.…

Freshmen year was honestly pretty good I had a lot of friends and had a lot of fun in my classes with them, going into Brunswick High School I was a little bit nervous just the fact I would be at the bottom of the totem pole now and would possibly be picked on by the older kids but it turned out to be just a myth, but some of them were definitely scary looking. Some other things I was afraid of was what the class load would be like I didn't know exactly how much tougher it would be but it honestly wasn't to much tougher than middle school. The teachers here were fairly nice didn't have many problems with them but they did definitely hold your behavior to a higher standard. High school was a change from middle school definitely just because…

Journal #3(Elementary School) From the first punch to the final insult, elementary school was by far the worst experience of my life. I remember being physically assaulted all the way back in kindergarten, taking punches from two imbeciles named Anthony and Carmelo. The teacher never did anything to stop the bullying, all she would ever do is tell them they weren't being nice. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that no one would help me; after all, it's human nature to turn the other way when confronted with a conflict.…

I have been bullied my whole life. High school changes people. They express themselves, become opinionated, and they start to look at the world differently as they experience things they have never encountered before. A wise Oliver Wendell Holmes said, “Man’s mind stretched to a new idea never goes back to its original dimensions.” This quote is an excellent way to describe my experience in high school.…

I remember my days in high school like it was yesterday. My freshman year I didn’t really know anyone at my school because I was new to the area. Once the school year got started I began to make friends and to be known around the school. I am walking through the empty, dimly lit hallway of _______ High, as I have done a million times before. Passing endless room after room filled with rows of desks, where students meet to grasp all the knowledge they can. I press my hand up against the cold, blue metal lockers that are hugged tightly against the cream painted brick walls. The smell of damp and musty air, filling my nose with each inhale. I really don’t have any business being here today.…
