Sela, Where Are Me

Improved Essays
“Sela, where are you?” My mother’s voice frantic. I stood perfectly still in my shadow trying to hold back the giggles. “Sela please come out, this is not funny.” When I noticed that mom had started to cry I felt guilty of my prank. “Mommy” I yelled as I stepped out of the white shadow. “Sela, where were you?” She said as she grabbed hold of me and hugged me close to her chest. “Mommy I can’t breath.” I squeaked as I tried to wiggle my way out of her grasp. All of sudden her relief turned into anger. She grasped my thin shoulders in her strong hands and shook me. She started crying again, this time out of frustration. “Don’t you ever do that again, do you hear me?” Her voice stern. “What’s not normal?” I wondered. Me? Why wasn’t I normal? Is it my friend? I often wondered my mommy and daddy didn’t talk about their special friends. I didn’t realize it, but I had started to weep. So when my daddy knocked on the door with our special knock and entered. I faced him with a red and wet face. “Well that confirms my fear that you heard us.” With his comforting presence so close I couln’t hold back the flood of tears welling in my eyes. “Daddy” I sobbed “What’s wrong with me?” “Nothing. You are perfect, special. And I think that you already know that.” He raised my head that had been buried in his chest and looked me straight in the eyes. “Sela, these games that you have been playing on your mother, where do you go?” “ Nowhere really, I go with my friend, and then I can hid.” “ Can you see your friend?” he probed. “ No, just sense her. She lets me hid in her shadow.” I was trying to explain, but saying it out loud didn’t make sense. “ When did you start to feel her presence?” he asked gently, but I could tell curiosity was starting to well up in side of …show more content…
“Always..always?” he muttered more to himself than me. “Daddy, why don’t you and mommy play games like I do? Why don’t you ever talk about your special friend?” I asked worry filling my face. “I’ve learned not to play those games around other people with my friend, and as for your mother she doesn’t have a friend like you and I do.” “Why not?” My voice quivering, thinking back to my mommy yelling “ It’s not normal.” He picked me up and went to my bed, where he sat me down. Sitting next to me he started speaking again. “Because only very special people are granted these abilities. My family had them, I was born with them, all though I didn’t start to develop them until I was much older than you. My parents helped me hone my skills for many years before I was able to do what you can already
