Scientific Mishap
One late night in October, Dr. Bryn was closing up her lab and preparing to go hunt for dinner for her and her assistants-- Dr. Bob and Dr. Bobby. She looked out at the sky, it was as foggy as a steam room. They had no internet so she couldn’t check the weather, but she heard soft thunder claps a couple of miles away. She needed to hunt because they ran out of food that day. She grabbed her bow and machete and started walking out. Dr. Bobby was still calculating some things for the experiment they were working on-- finding a way to take animal observing to the next level by making humans invisible to animals when you take the potion. It would make observing dangerous animals one-thousand times easier.

It had the head and mane of a lion, as yellow as the sun, and the big blubbery blue-gray back and legs of a hippo. I was crowded against the wall and I looked right into it’s fire red eyes. I didn’t have anymore weapons left so all I could do was run. I grabbed my assistants arms and ran, with them next to me, out the window. I knew I couldn’t outrun it, but because it was half hippo it couldn’t climb trees. I found a tree, helped my assistants up, and then saw the creature coming while I was climbing up. It grabbed my pant leg and tried pulling me down but I smacked it’s head, forced its mouth off my leg, and got up the tree-- with all limbs. The li-opotamus roared/ grunted like both the animals it was. It shook the tree, with its strength from the hippo. We had to get out of the tree without the thing eating us. It bit the tree, that didn’t work too well, so it charged at the tree, that worked better because I heard a crack. The ferocious beast charged again and the tree cracked, sending us falling to the ground. We had no time to waste so we did the plan we talked about, I ran to the lion because I was the fastest and distracted it away from them while they found a weapon-- a tranquilizer-- and shot

In the middle of my sophomore year, I was asked by a senior if I would like to be the president of a dance club they had started that year. The club members knew that I was apart of a well known dance studio. I was indecisive primarily because the club only had 3 members and so I did not know how I could make it into something starting off alone and young, but something told me to just go for it. And that I did.…

I refrain from making hasty decisions, a trait that’s made it easier to manage time and keep my life organized. It’s not that I don’t enjoy some spontaneity, just that I’ve had experience with faulty planning. I like to consider as many details and possible outcomes of a situation before making a decision; in fact, I believe it’s my best characteristic. Thinking things through allows me to make sound, satisfying choices in both my academic and social life. It is a practice that has saved me from careless mistakes on math tests and kept my activities.…

The screams got louder as we came to a screeching halt. I quickly jumped off of Tripp's back as I saw a huge figure running towards us at an unrealistic speed. My first thought was that it was a huge gorilla or ape. Unfortunately, it was worse. Tripp told me to take a step back as I saw Coach Moore running full speed ahead right at us.…

Failure has always been a huge aspect in my life recurring in everything I indulge myself in; whether it be academically, athletically, or even Boy Scouts. I tend to have a knack for challenging myself till I am unable to complete the task given to me, whilst this could be good in some ways it also puts me in some not favorable situations. More recently I had the thought of completing a bike race , after receiving medical attention for a concussion and a broken collarbone. This was not necessarily the smartest decision on my part, especially since the race was longer than I have ever raced before and also a three day event.…

Through my four years in high school, one of the toughest classes I faced was AP biology. The rigorous course involved an intense 48 chapter lesson plan with a 2 hour AP exam at the end of the school year. Near the end of my junior, I was skeptical of taking this class, as I heard from my fellow classmates that the class was difficult to earn a decent grade. With this in mind, I began preparing for the class over the summer by reading the textbook, and practicing using the workbook. As I read the book, I became deeply interested in this subject.…

“A handful of moments I wished I could change, but I was carried away,” are the lyrics that remind a lot about myself. Growing up, and even about two years ago, I was insanely shy and did not talk much around people, friends, or family. The way I talked to people was in a timid, soft spoken way, which looking back, was awfully embarrassing. My friends and family would laugh at me because I could not talk well, and when I did talk, they acted as if I were a baby who just said its first words. With all of that nonsense going on, their idiotic response kind of made me not want to say anything anymore.…

An experience that changed my life was on May 19th, 2014, my brother’s death. It changed my life in a positive and negative way. You would think that death would devastate someone for the rest of their life, but my brother’s death actually changed my life. I’m not saying that his death didn’t have a negative effect on me, but it had more of a positive effect on me than anything.
