Personal Narrative: Sassy's Argument

Improved Essays
Have you ever had a dream where you wake up and feel like it was so real? Well I had a

similar experience except it was opposite. I was always so careful with my dog being around

males since she is not spayed. Around Thanksgiving of 2015, my dog started her third heat.

When I started noticing her body change a month later, I took her to the vet only to be told it was

a false pregnancy. My vet had no clue what she was talking about because my dog went

through a factual pregnancy.

First, Sassy is a full bred registered German Rottweiler. I had plans to breed her with

another full bred and papered Rottweiler when she turns three. I did not let her go to dog parks,

play with the neighbor’s dog, or be around male dogs completely during the whole month she

I would only leave 3 hours out of a whole week to go

to Denver to see my brother for an hour then go back home. Other than that I was home with

Sassy and she has never been around a male when she was in heat, that I have ever witnessed.

Then, I started to realize her teats and stomach started dropping, I started to wonder if

she escaped while I was gone and my roommate didn’t want to tell me or maybe she is going

through a false pregnancy. Then a week after getting larger, she was really clingy to me and

eating more than usual. I wasn’t too worried at this point because she wasn’t around any males

at all and she acted like this in her first heat. I started asking my mom about if she has been

around a male that I didn’t see or if she got out, but my mom said no which made me a little

more relieved. Except the fact she was just getting massive as the days went by.

Finally, my roommate mentioned her friends Lab and how he came over and played with

sassy and her dog. I was so frustrated as she knew I was worried about my dog and knew I

didn't want unaltered males around her. She thought it was no big deal because he was only

It all began in the Fall of 2012, my dog, Wrinkles got sick and though she got sick a few times per year, but this seemed different. I never understood why her breed of dog had such a tendency of getting sick with what is currently known as “Shar-Pei fever,” but after a little bit of researcth I realized it was bound to happen to her, and any dog of the Shar-Pei breed we could have adopted after her. Veterinarians had no idea how to cure or even how to fight the disease, and at this point in her life, it meant certain death. Once I found this out, it felt as though my life was over. I still had hope that she would be cured and go back to the playful pup she was just months earlier.…

I treated her as if she were a real dog, even though she was just a stuffed animal.…

However, I would always see her when I looked into the mirror, since I looked just like her.
