“Hey! Wanna go for a bike ride tonight?” Karli texted me this one-night last summer. This one night where my whole summer ended. The last night I remained able to hang out with my friends for the entire summer came before I knew it. No one had ever guessed bad things might happen. This will give you insight into how I received my concussion. One summer night my friends and I wanted to do something. Karli thought we should go for a bike ride and then texted me. The only people who had the chance to bike around were, Karli, Olivia, and me. Earlier in the evening, I received the text so I still had to eat supper and then meet them uptown. So, we decided to meet at 7:30. I remember what we ended up having for supper, pork chops. This is the last …show more content…
They told me I started running up some stairs because the game involved running and moving around to different places. On the stairs there’s a little roof and apparently I didn’t see this or I just didn’t duck down far enough because they said I smacked my head on the roof and then fell backwards and hit my head on the ground and I hit my neck on the stairs. After this my friends said we just kept messing around. A little later we decided to take a selfie apparently. After this we started looking at the picture and they said I didn’t remember taking the picture and I seemed really confused. They just shook it off and thought I had been kidding. We started walking they said, and then they told me I kept asking if I had hit my head and what had happened because I said my head hurt. After this they said they felt really concerned and we walked back to the cars. They decided I shouldn’t drive home so they took my phone and called my parents to see if they could come pick me up. So they loaded my bike up for me and then my parents came. I hopped in my mom’s car and my dad took his pickup, my mom told me. She said on the way home I kept asking the same …show more content…
My dad told me I asked these questions for the next hour and a half. Also at one point I must have said,
“We have a dog.”
My mom responded with “Yep, do you remember her name?”
She then said, “Jersey, remember?”
After the hour and a half, my parents decided this seemed unordinary. So, my parents call Mr. Koedam because we are good family friends and they figured he probably knew what to do. He said if I still acted like this in a half hour, then they should probably take me to the doctor just in case, they told me. I seemed to be still acting weird, so my mom took me in the ER. They gave me a CT scan to check for bleeding because I made them concerned, but it all turned out good. So they just determined I had a severe concussion and I needed to rest a

Even though still poorly understood, the condition of a concussion was formally identified over a millennium ago (Carroll and Rosner 11). Three months after my last concussion I was experiencing excruciating headaches, light sensitivity, memory issues, persistent fatigue, and struggles with my school work. Everyday tasks like walking up the stairs, waking up on time, and remembering the route to school became substantial hurdles. Anxious, my mother decided to take me to see a neurologist. I went through multiple MRI’s, CT scans, and X-Rays to determine the condition of my neck and brain tissues, all of which returned normal.…

When I was young, my sister and I never got along well. Neither of us were afraid to voice our thoughts, but we had opposite personalities, so that was an enormous complication. She would constantly whine whenever I practice the violin or piano that I was too loud and it was drowning out the music she was listening to. In return, I would always retort that her music was too loud and distracting. Well, I never actually called it “her music”: I referred to it as “garbage”.…

Loyalty over Blood Everyone has heard the saying, “blood is thicker than water,” but most people have failed to know the full saying. This part of the quote would make someone believe that people related by blood should be closer than those not. While many may think of this as true, I like to think of the full quote as more accurate, “The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb” (Lang). To me, this means that the blood formed between bonds is thicker than just genetics.…
