As I sit here fumbling over what to write about and thinking about all of the memorable moments in my life, One memory stands out from the rest. The first time I ever played the cello was breathtaking and I can remember the day clearly as if it was yesterday. The cello added to the quote I’ve always gone by “All things begin small some grow into something bigger and same fade away as if they never existed”. The start was small and steady but the product of it was astonishing and important. Playing the cello made me realize my love for music and the passion I have for it, That’s the reason I’m sharing this with you today, to show time and effort rewarded me with my passion.

The day it all happened was dull the first day of August, overcast and humid. As I laid in a deep exhausted sleep I was awoke by a all too familiar voice my brain registered it as my mom. I sat up opening my eyes slowly they burned and ached from the sunlight that leaked from my curtains and I stared waiting for her to speak. “I’m going to Lonna’s do you want to come?” I thought for only a second then answered with the same response as usual. “No.” I rolled back into my warm blankets of safety and comfort listening to my mom’s footsteps around the house as she gathered everything and got ready to leave. I laid there unable to drift back to sleep and finally rolled out of my sheets

We held small conversations but nothing too deep or personal she showed me the downstairs, but I went straight back upstairs and rushed to her room finding what forced me to leave my house. The cello, i walked over to the corner of her pink bedroom and looked at the black case resembling the looks of a cello and looked at her “May I?” She nodded and unzipped the case pulling out a mahogany colored cello two black curled designs on each side making the color of the body stand

I am known for the "American System" and known as the "Great Compromiser," however I have accomplished and been through so much more than that. Born in 1777 in Hanover County, Virginia, I was exposed to American history since I was young. In 1797, I moved to Kentucky along with many others wanting to pursue careers in law and politics. My political career began in 1803 when I was elected to the Kentucky General Assembly then appointed to the U.S. Senate in 1806. I was Secretary of State under John Quincy Adams.…

If I have not challenged myself to practice and to confront challenges, I could not have become the principal player in our school’s jazz band and wind ensemble. After several breakthroughs, I decided to share my inspirations to the younger generation. This year, I am one of the coordinators of the Molding Musicians program supported by the Cypress Boys and Girls Club, teaching the fifth and sixth graders how to play an instrument. I appreciate the fact that my achievements did not come from an easy work, but rather a persistent standing against…

The day I started to play my instruments changed my life, each in a different way. In 2002 I was overjoyed to find out that my mother had enrolled me in piano lessons with a family friend. I remember sitting down in our living room at the brown Baldwin piano pushed against our fire place. The keyboard itself seemed to stretch on forever with its gigantic keys.…

I was drowning out the world with the music playing through my phone, twirling the headphone cord around my finger. My hand brushed across the paper as I erased some pencil markings. I observed the text on the brightly lit screen of my chromebook, searching for the answers to the questions on my homework. I stared at the screen with a look of confusion on my face. Little did I know that the next few moments would put my hard work to some use.…

Different moments of our lives change us and shape us into the man or woman whom one day we will become. One moment that changed me was when I got my first instrument. Getting my first instrument was exciting, yet challenging at the same time. When I told my mom that I wanted to start playing music, I didn’t realize how hard it can truly be. I didn’t think of how much patience and time I would need to put into my practicing.…

I struggled to concentrate on the television as my Mom and this strange man passionately embraced one another on the adjacent couch. For some reason which I could not seem to comprehend, the Spongebob rerun did not demand my attention quite like seeing my Mom with this man. My Mom had promised to take me to our favorite Chinese restaurant, but as I watched the minutes tick away on the clock, I became increasingly suspicious that perhaps we were where we would stay for the night. It all started at my grandparents’ house. “Get ready, Dakota!”…

Whether it was my young self having the desire to play the violin or simply me being obstinate in not listening to adults, it’s a wonder to realize that what defines me today is all due to my younger self refusing to give up. Despite my determination, it became clear to me that my passion for the violin was not matched by the effort that I was putting into the instrument. As part of my instruction on the violin, I participated annually in ASTACAP-American String Teachers Association Certificate Advancement Program. Until…

I began cultivating my skills as a violinist at the ripe age of seven. As a naive child, praise and flattery caused an inflated ego, and compliments became detrimental to my growth as a musician. My biggest regret is failing to realize at a young age that great violinists are not defined by their achievements, but rather their sphere of influence created as a result of music. My senior year of high school served as a rite of passage towards becoming a mature musician.…

Locking yourself in an upstairs room and a call to the cops; crying out for help somehow turned into being your fault and if they get another call you would be the one in jail.…

“Three, two, one … victory,” but instead of feeling satisfaction I’m mainly feeling aggravated. This was due to the fact that I continually perished to my adversaries; as a team we did great, just some examples would be , being on the objective, seeing our enemies in effective formations, and our team worked in unison or together. I instantaneously deactivate my console and stop playing… this got progressively worse almost to the extent of enragement. I have been born 3 times. The first time was 13.8 billion years ago, when the universe began to exist. The second time was on November 24, 1997, when my mother brought her second child into the world. The third time I was born, and the time most relevant to this discussion, was on a sweaty afternoon in Sophomore year when a girl asked me for bus money, and I decided it was time I learned to accept the first two. So here I am, made up of atoms that are 13.8 billion years old, a body almost 19 years old, and an identity that couldn’t even go to kindergarten.…
