Personal Narrative: Sacrifice

I started out with a passion to do great things in this world, but somehow lost my way. I was made to believe that I was nothing, an object, a possession that would never make it on my own. I would scream out for help, but it always seemed like everything was my fault. I was trapped.

Locking yourself in an upstairs room and a call to the cops; crying out for help somehow turned into being your fault and if they get another call you would be the one in jail. Once again the Battery would be taken out of your vehicle and debt card would be reported stolen. With a grip so tight, finger prints would be left bruised into your skin. Fake smiles, no tears, you get good at hiding the pain. Then you hit a point where everything is just numb and you except that

That little life became your savior. When you tried to run he became suicidal and blamed it on you. Society can be cruel and you were made to believe that you were an awful human for wanting to split up your family. How could you be so selfish? You felt guilty and were made to believe he would change. So trapped you stayed. No matter how hard you tried things just kept getting worse. Once again you tied to flee. You were told by his attorney if you left the state they would considered it child kidnapping. “You have no money and no place to go,” the attorney would tell you, “you would be considered homeless.” The voice over the phone said “your only real option is to go back with him; he obviously loves you”. He knows your one true weakness, your child. So back you go. He would spend money on foolish things for himself leaving rent going unpaid, heat being shut off in the winter, and only a few dollars for groceries. He never went without, but you would sacrifice to make sure your daughter never had to. Then your little angel started getting sick, and it became a battle. Test after test they couldn’t tell you what was wrong; the hope of you getting a job became a dream. So
