I sat down with my family to watch the 2012 World Olympics, wearing my USA tee shirt I was excited and ready to cheer on my country team. We watched as the broadcasters conversed about the world fastest runners, while the athletes warmed up and took the field for the big race. Journalist snapping their cameras, I focused on there lively expressions of this exciting and memorable event. Suddenly the blistering gun shot signified that the race has begun, and applause spread through the crowd like an electrical current.…
I sat in the very back with the most room to myself, while Enzo and Marcello sat in the crammed middle row bickering about something that was probably very unimportant. The ride was going to be sixteen hours long, but nobody cared because of how fun the Ohio State game would be. So, after two days, we arrived in New Orleans. Our hotel room was quite small for five people, so we were itching to get out as we explored the city. That night, we had great dinner to start our three day stay in New Orleans.…
San Francisco, CA – On the day of pink, where thousands walk 39.3 miles to raise money and awareness for breast cancer, a small group of individuals gathered around a heavy black wheelchair. Unlike the thousands that covered miles and miles for their cause, these individuals will cover 5 kilometers, 5 important kilometers; these kilometers are some of the most meaning full steps that these individuals will take. Standing around the wheelchair, they are waiting for a very important participant named Caliah. Caliah is a happy and active 10-year-old, much like every other child her age, she plays Pokemon Go and has a fixation for cartoons, she laughs and giggles at jokes, and she much like all kids her age wants to be the center of attention.…
We were there very early at 6 am and there were no cars or anybody there yet except for us. We got ready to help and set everything up for…
It took about twenty hours to get there, when we pulled in it was so electrifying knowing that you were going to be competing against people from every state. It was super hot and humid there and our horses were not used to it so we had to hang fans on their stalls and make sure they drank plenty of water. I was very nervous for my first run which was in the barrel racing, my horse was very nervous too. There was a lot of noise and things going on that scared her a lot, when it was our turn to go we didn’t do good.…
Touchdown. Touchdown is what the sports commentator said. Touchdown is why the fans started cheering. Touchdown is why we were here. Touchdown was all I heard when I went to the Dallas Cowboys’ game with my dad.…
Fanatical About “Gordon” As a teenager I would think that watching a NASCAR race was about the most boring way to spend four hours or more every weekend; although every weekend my step-father would persistently watch cars race around in a circle. My opinion began to change in 1993 after a get-together with co-workers. They would get-together between the work weeks and grill out, drink beer and watch the race. In “93” I became a part of this ritual although I still didn’t care very much about the race I did enjoy the good food and camaraderie.…
Personal Narrative The roaring off the engines became louder and louder, the fresh smell of tar wafted by my nose, Just as I was about to start the next lap, I see the orange cones right in front of me. I suddenly panic and just then I, well let me start from the beginning. It was a nice, hot, humid day in Myrtle Beach.…
My father has been a St. Louis Blues season ticket holder for over 20 years now. He began taking me to Blues hockey games when I was a nothing more than a toddler. Our family has bled blue for as long as I can remember, despite the 49 year Stanley Cup drought. Attending a hockey game with my father has always been a treat. When I was that toddler sitting in the back of my father's car on the way to the Savvis center for a Blues game, we always listened to the pre-game show on KMOX; listening to the pre-game has become somewhat of a religious tradition for us.…
I was wondering what trip we were going to. Once I got ready to go, I asked my dad in a questioning tone of voice, “Where are we going anyway?” “We are going to Six Flags,” my sister said in a tone of voice as if I should know already. I was feeling excited to go there, but feeling a little bit scared to go to some of the games and rides. My family and I with my uncle were going to Six Flags, so we got into the car and started driving.…
BANG! Time seems to slow down as the gun goes off to start the race. Bright lights and the crowd cheering are distracting as beads of sweat start to drip off me. However, despite this nervousness there is nowhere else I would rather be. The Adrenaline rush and sense of responsibility that you are carrying your teammate’s hopes, pushes me to run to the best of my ability.…
The track is called 56 Speedway. It is located in Brownsdale Minnesota, which is about an hour away. It was shortly before we left and we were loading everything up and getting ready. Before we left I stepped in my dad’s office for a minute and went on youtube. I looked up the track and there was videos with a gopro so you could see what they see.…
When I was young, my sister and I never got along well. Neither of us were afraid to voice our thoughts, but we had opposite personalities, so that was an enormous complication. She would constantly whine whenever I practice the violin or piano that I was too loud and it was drowning out the music she was listening to. In return, I would always retort that her music was too loud and distracting. Well, I never actually called it “her music”: I referred to it as “garbage”.…
There I was, anxiously waiting for the guy at the starting line to shoot the gun so we can begin our journey to the finish line. After what felt like a lifetime, the gun went off and everyone took off like a stampede of wildly angry animals. I began sprinting while remembering to count to five in my head, slowly declining to a fast jog, then to a slower jog with big strides. Some of the other girls and I played tag for a while, they passed me and I passed them, which was the start of the race to the end. The pack of runners turns a corner and my legs nearly collapsed when I saw what was ahead, a very slow yet steep inclined hill.…
I have been looking forward to this Savage Race for several reasons, for starters Garfield now works for them and I haven't gotten to see him since if I recall the OCR World Championships so I was looking forward to that and as well his influence to the Savage Race course. I also had a great time at my two previous Savage Race events and even though they removed one of my favorite obstacles (no one else would agree) the electric shock, I also got a chance to enjoy the cliff jump and ice tub obstacles that I don’t see often. As this was a busy race weekend with me racing in Pennsylvania on Saturday and Canada on Sunday, I drove down the night before to Pennsylvania and slept in the parking lot on my air mattress. The night started out nice…
