I call upon the Muse, to sing in me and through me, tell the gambles one person can take throughout the single month of adventuring inside the gaming world, travelling through medieval times as a dragonborn, fighting off dragons and plundering dungeons, helping the citizens of stardew valley, saving your entire crew whilst fighting a galactic space battle, or saving the world from the omnic invasion. He travelled through Whiterun to stop the dragon from destroying the city, learned how to command an entire space fleet after the admiral was shot before his eyes, and sat through many in game days waiting for the perfect crops to grow, his only goal was to get support from his team to make it to the end of the multiple days and nights. I start my first day bound to a horse drawn carriage voyaging to medieval Helgen, where my own execution awaited me, framed for something I had no part in. Next to me sit other prisoners of war meeting the same fate I face. Inside my head, the god Arkay, who was the god of birth and death, was overflowing with joy to notice that one of his brightest pupils was being sent to death were he gets to reap my soul. My time was growing thin as each of the prisoners faced their execution with bravery and showed no fear. This one guy however, was a coward and exclaim he had no ties with the rest of the prisoners. He booked it when he was called to be executed and was shot instantly. The first man called to their death would’ve stared Arkay down as he pushed for his own death exclaiming with a dry smile, ‘my ancestors are smiling down on me, can you say the same?’ as he gets decapitated. Next my turn, I take the place of the other executed prisoner. I smell the rotting of his old tunic and the fresh new blood in which I’m shoved down upon. I stare my executioner in the face as he begins to ready his bloodied axe. Just as he finished preparing to lift the axe, the coal dragon, Alduin, appears and crashes on the nearest stone tower to barbeque all the people in the confined space. He torches everyone except me. He finishes his flamethrower breath and looks at me with his cold eyes. Arkay breaks free from my mind to appear before me in daedric armour …show more content…
Right before me stood an entire abandoned farm with my name on it. My grandfather gave me, his most precious gift, to me as his final wish. At the time I was only at the age of seven so I didn’t even consider the farm that much in life. My dying grandfather told me ‘there will be a day when you feel crushed by the burden and your bright spirit will fade before a growing emptiness, when that happens, you will be ready for this gift.’ Now 20 years later, I felt this emptiness and decided to continue the family tradition of farming in stardew valley. In this valley, I met many support people to help me along my new, peaceful, life in this game. They showed me around town, where to buy the cheap farming supplies, and welcomed me with open arms. This new world helped me return to I really am and kept my mind at ease from outside world’s problems. I worked for hours at end, building up the small farm into something magnificent with plants flourishing, animals living their lives, and I meet my new dog, who became my best friend. Looking back at all of these stories, James realized that everyone finds their own enjoyment in different ways. Some, like Antonio, find enjoyment by growing attached to characters in a game and start to care for them then the real people he socializes with every real day in his life. In the end, Antonio likes to take the full gamble while

The power of fiction to transport a reader into a different time, place or quest carries the human imagination like a magic carpet to worlds unknown. “Human beings love stories. We put them everywhere-not only in books, films, and plays, but also in songs, news articles, cartoons, and video games.” (Kennedy, Gioia 2013) Not only is fiction used to expand the imagination, but fiction can also be used as a vehicle of expression for the human heart to communicate emotions, principles and problems that we often encounter as created beings.…
