Perspective 1 (Me): Allergies drove me crazy as I waited my turn for the Star Drill at softball practice. Discreetly wiping under my nose, I shifted my weight as I watched my teammates throw the ball around the bases. The catcher threw the ball to Tess, who was standing about ten feet in front of me. I saw it coming in high compared to Tess' small frame, and got prepared for the ball coming at us. Tess jumped up to get the ball, tipped it off her glove, and next thing I knew I was on the ground.…

Baseball: the sport where you stand around for 20 minutes and move 3 feet to the left and move 3 feet to the right. It’s so intense. The only time it’s actually fun is when you’re annihilating the other team while they’re asleep on the field.…

While growing up, sports have always been a big part of my life. At the age of only six years old, my parents first signed me up for coach pitch softball. Little did they know that I was going to fall in love with the game and that they were going to have to spend countless hours at softball fields during the spring each year watching me play. Being so young when I first started playing, winning and losing did not matter at all. As long as I got to throw, hit, and catch the ball, I was happy.…

Long weekends at hotels all across the state from Battle Creek to Frankenmuth, we played baseball where ever it was to be played. Sixty miles per hour is the speed at which the average softball player throws the ball; so I guess you could say I was in the wrong place at the wrong time, but I believe I was exactly where I was supposed to be. You know how some people say there was a certain moment that changed their life completely? Well, this was that moment for me, and it all was caused by a miscommunication. Miscommunications happen all of the time, but with a softball that isn't actually soft, and someone standing only 30 feet away from you; well you can already see the implications. At the time, I didn't see what was going to unfold, but I had a bad feeling about what was to come.…
