STOP Female Circumcision
The most excruciating period of life was when I got circumcised at the age of seven years old. I remembered staying in bed for a whole month and I couldn't walk to bathroom without someone helping me, the first two weeks was miserable to pee. Imagine your legs are tied to each other with ropes just so you don't move your legs apart. It felt like someone was pouring alcohol on my vaginal. I remembered that day like it was yesterday; when my cousins and I came from duqsi (which is a school where you learn the Quran) in the morning. But before we could ask, one of our aunt separated us and tried distracting us from asking questions or start panicking. Later, one of my cousins went next after my sister, and eventually it was my turn to get circumcised. I was so scared, because I heard my cousins and sister scream for their life, like someone is murdering them. Plus, when I walked into the room, I saw a lot of blood on the place I was told to lay down. In the room, there were five ladies plus the woman who's going to circumcise me. When I laid down on the table, the ladies started to hold me back so that I wouldn't move. My aunt was one of the ladies holding me, and she was telling me that it was going to be alright. Then, the next thing I know, I felt the blade cutting my flesh, pain rushed into my thighs as I screamed at my aunt to make them stop, but she kept saying, “It's going to be alright”. Then, it stopped and I had this relief that I can't even describe with words. However, it only last for a few seconds, because just when I though it over, I saw the women coming back with a needle. The most popular theory is that it came from Ancient Egypt during the black women slave trade, where they entered into an Arab society and regarding to Sub-Saharan FGM began during the comer of Islam.
