SECU Foundation People Helping People Scholarship Dedicated to making a better life for myself, I strive to be an example to others also. I’ve been a hard-working student ever since elementary school. I was actually placed in the next grade (Kindergarten) for the second remainder of Pre-K because I exceeded my work. I exemplified dedication and stayed motivated at an early age, which is why I continue to strive for more now. In the second semester, of my junior year in high school, my education was challenged and could’ve been limited. As a student, I know anything is possible and I won’t stand to have my abilities limited. I had to take one last science (Physical Science). The only odd thing about this class was that it wasn’t offered as honors. A classmate and I wondered why and sought out for answers. After a brief talk with our principal, we realized we had to take manners into our own hands. We were questioned why the class should be honors and were told our school couldn’t supply the funds. A talk with the board of education cleared everything up and we got the Physical Science class turned into half honors and half regular. At this moment, I was overjoyed for words. This dilemma proved to me that I’m in charge of my success and anything I want I have to work hard after. …show more content…
Nothing comes easy and I know this coming from a small town. In my school, I have shown leadership as being the captain of our varsity girls’ sports (volleyball and basketball). Embodying great character and being on the principal’s list for four years, I became the Student Government Association (SGA) Executive Vice President and the Vice President for our National Honor Society club. In my community, I was an officer for the 4-H youth group at my church and I also became captain for a year with The Explorers (youth police

I earned my first leadership role at the age of two. At that age, I became my sister’s role model. It was up to me to teach her the tricks of the trade for everything-- from tying her shoes to studying for her first math test. Although I didn’t have any designated leadership positions during my early years of high school, it was the similarly intimate, accidental moments of leadership that colored my participation in my extracurriculars.…

To all the doctors, teachers, peers, and family members who didn’t believe I would amount to greatness, thank you. When I was young, I didn’t understand why school seemed more challenging for me than it did for everyone else. I couldn’t discern why I was unable to distinguish my right from my left no matter how many times my teacher sighed and told me it was simple or why I could complete math problems perfectly then copy my answer wrong between the work area and the answer line.…

I have exhibited the four levels of National Honor Society by the extracurricular activities I am in and in my academics. I express scholarship as I have excellent grades and towards the end of my sophomore year I had received an academic letter. Through leadership I have helped others in schoolwork, cheerleading, and I have pushed others in cross country and track. With cross country I may not be much of a leader in practice, but I am a strong leader when it comes to supporting everyone in their races. Also many people come to me for help for they trust me and rely on my knowledge.…

The strengths that I have acquired through high school are persistence, endurance, and work ethic. In high school I have always been persistent to keep my grade up and made it my goal to be on the honor roll. Freshman year I was able to make it to second honors, which is to have quarter grades no lower than a C. I persisted myself to make it to first honors (no grade lower than a B-). Towards the end of my sophomore year I achieved my goal. I persisted to make it to principal’s list junior and senior year.…

When I was in third grade, I was accepted into the Gifted And Talented Education program, otherwise known as GATE. My parents and I were ecstatic for such a wonderful opportunity, but little did I know, their expectations of me grew. Subsequently, I increasingly became afraid of failure and disappointment from those around me. Despite being a rather playful and active child, I was very quiet and introverted in class, terrified of being ousted as rowdy by the teacher. It wasn’t until middle school that I finally broke out of my bubble and became who I am today.…

At that point school had not posed to be particularly difficult for me, I did the work assigned and got the grades. During my sophomore year of high school, I was going through a really tough patch. Even though the classes that I took were challenging, but it wasn’t something that I couldn’t handle. My first semester started out fine since I was on the track to a 4.0 GPA. However, I suddenly developed this “I don’t care” attitude about school and my academic skills began to drop. As a result, my Precalculus Honors grade for Semester #1 turned out to be a C. It was devastating since I thought of math to be my best subject.…

Three years into my high school I hadn't gotten into the state of mind that most over achievers have. I had floated through high school thinking I was trying my very hardest to get good grades and become a consistently studious candidate of my school. However, no matter how hard I tried I failed I gave into all the distractions and used all my obstacles as excuses became frustrated and developed an attitude problem that I had created myself. Being a consistent 2.5 student wasn't satisfying or inspiring. Uniquely enough, I had decided to take challenging courses my junior year.…

I also faced some very devastating challenges involving myself and my family.…

Now I wanted the world to be my oyster. That summer, without any prompting from my parents, I chose to study independently and came to enjoy topics such as algebra, inheritance of genes and gravitation in which previously I had very little interest. This perseverance paid off as soon as I went back to school and despite being in the bottom set for both English and Maths, my test scores began to steadily improve. Even after all my hard work, I was bitterly disappointed when so many people in my year achieved better grades than me in the prelim exams. What more could I…

Not the best salary even after going through many years of schooling, wasting money out of your own pocket to buy school supplies, very long work days, often targeted for the education of the country, demanding parents, and difficult students. So why is that teachers want to teach? I would say the number one reason why teachers want to teach is probably being able to teach students to expand their knowledge and watching them grow is a very honorable feeling for a teacher. As a child it was my dream to be a firefighter but found out that it was not a career for me after seeing some horrific scenes on a ride along with a local fire station. So that’s why I decided to pursuit teaching.…
