Not So Serine Anymore Growing up on a street called Serenity Court, everything was so serene. I lived in a house on a big hill so we would never play basketball because someone would always end up chasing it down the hill. I was one of the boys growing up, as my dad would say. Every day, we would get home from school me and my three neighbors across the street would all get together and play. We would have lemonade stands, go swimming, or just chase each other around in our yards.…

“Throwing Down The Gauntlet On My Life” I’m a junior at Presbyterian Pan American School. I was born in Brownsville, Texas, but since my parents are Mexican nationals, I grew up in San Fernando, Tamaulipas, Mexico. In 2013, my parents told me to “pack your bags” you are going to Kingsville, Texas. I came to Texas three years ago to attend Presbyterian Pan American School (PPAS), a senior private boarding school in Kingsville, Texas, on an academic scholarship. Talking about different aspects of my life is daunting, but it also allows me to come to terms with my growth as an individual by learning from my failures, confronting obstacles such as adapting to new surroundings, and a different educational system, speaking English properly, and adjusting to a real world working environment.…

Water I love getting whisked away into stories of adventures and heroism. Stories that made you look at our world and seem to think it was so astonishing yet so simple, that we were yet to create the futuristic tools books spoke of. Or that we were yet to find the magic that was hidden underneath all the layers of science. I was the only one in my family who had the love for the alternate realities that everyone spoke of. The Trip to the Grocery Store I haven’t seen him in weeks or maybe even months, I thought as I glared across the small distance between where I was standing and my dad’s car. With my One Direction CD clutched in my hands, I started to close the distance by walking towards his car. I opened the door and slipped in, and then he started to drive to the grocery store. At the time I was under the illusion that my dad would be even slightly happy to see me, but no.…

I know every night after dinner is done I have a ton of dishes to clean that have food stuck to whatever dishes are in the sink. First off, my sink isn’t the biggest and pleasant one out there, so everytime I do the dishes I always end up with a soaked shirt that sticks to my stomach and has a dreadful scent that is nauseating. When my brothers who are sixteen years old attempt to do the dishes, I prefer not one person use the dish without washing it again because they are very lazy teenage boy that use one little squirt of dish soap that’s on the scrubby and is going to be used for 10 dishes, which is a problem with how clean the dishes will come out . First of all, the dishes in the dish rack are all greasy because they never rinse out the scrubby when it was used on a pan that had oil in it and that makes the scrubby all slimy and disgusting. So all that grease and slime is brought on to the rest of the dishes follow after that pan.…
