Sitting on the bus with anticipation and my nerves are really shot, here i go on my way to the Elsberry cross country meet. I’m shaking on my way there, as we get closer to our destination i’m trying everything to calm my nerves. Laying down on my bag, i close my eyes and am soon sound asleep. Waking up with a sudden start to see one of my teammates telling me that we made it, i’m shocked and i force myself to get up to prepare for this run. Getting off the bus to see the beautiful sun and other schools setting up their tents as junior varsity is almost ready to run. Feeling nervous and scared,i run to the restroom to be prepared for my run…

Slowly reminding myself that i need to focus. Deep breaths in,then out as we stretch out and get ready. The gunman positions himself and says ‘’Teams get in your box and good luck!’’,the beating of my heart pounds harder as the whistle blows,signaling us to move up to the next line. My mind races with thoughts,my body tenses up making my stomach knot up and the sweat starts to get to me. I close my eyes and take my last deep breath… Bang!

The ground beneath me comes to life with rumbling feet,people all around are pushing their way towards the front as we head downhill with tight turns and so little space to get by anyone. Staying in the place

Picking up speed with my legs i try to ignore the pain in my ribs as i come closer and closer to not only the finish, but the person in front of me. Now neck and neck with the finish in my grasps, i stride across the finish to find that i passed the runner! My legs swell from the pain, but my heart pounds with the pride knowing that i achieved my goal. Walking past people who were handing out medals, the next one was for me....
