I began to dose slowly as if a I was sinking in to the cool mud, like I was being sucked down tonthe center of the earth. Then, I heard something a hissing and felt something too, a smooth slimy thing, slowly coiling, solwly coiling around my leg. My eyes snappend open, it was a snake! A shimmering silver one. When it saw me staring at it, its eyes became small green slits in its face and its body became straighter, harder, ready to strike. I wanted to scream. Now, I know why I did not want to “experience the nature” the nature was dangerous an unforgiving beast. I would have given anything for Turks and Caicos right now. The scream built i. Side me as the snake sized me up. I head something else to a splashing noise, I saw a shaddow abkve me before I saw it. God, could it be a bear? Being piosened by a snake abd eaten by a bear that would be my luck, all the while, the snake keot tighting around my leg, it hac started to go numb. I opened my mouth to scream even if it was only to the trees, maybe my

Pacing back and forth, I pondered how our volleyball fundraiser was going to stay afloat. The council was distraught, unable to acquire more teams, with the tournament in two days. With our advisors and the vice principal leaning towards canceling the event, my council had two choices: get eight more teams to sign up or call off the event. I didn’t want to cancel because I knew that as Junior and Senior year approached, we needed more money to fund our proms and class trips.…

The beginning of the short story is set in a poetic desert scene. “Dry savory odors” are present and linger “sweet[ly] on the cooler air” while the man is taking a walk at dusk. This imagery brings to mind a tranquil time of the day, when everything has begun to rest. The atmosphere is pleasant or at least until the snake and man encounter each other. At that moment the mood suddenly shifts as man and snake stare at each other, waiting for the other to attack.…

From my last 3 years of running cross county I have learned a lot of things. One is that you should never give up, second is that if you work hard enough then you can achieve whatever you put your mind to, and third is how you can go from disliking something to loving something. How I've learned these things from cross county is when I first started cross country, my sophomore year I couldn't run to save my life. Coach would always time us on how fast we could run two miles and I would always be last and be so far behind everyone else which was quite embarrassing but I couldn't help it I had just started and I'd never ran before in my life, at my very first meet I couldn't even run the first mile and I ended up having to drop out. After that I didn't like cross county at all because I wasn't good at it…

Rose Family Scholarship/Shafer Trust Award Roland-Story School District Foundation High School Senior Future College Award 2018 For the last three years, I’ve had the privilege of going on a mission trip with my youth group to Dallas, Texas. Since the summer of 2015, we have visited an amazing group of educators, ministers, and everyday volunteers who work to bring refugees out of poverty and integrate them into the American lifestyle through faith. While I was there, I got to reach out to kids ages 2-17 years old that came from a variety of different countries. From Sunday night till Saturday morning, our team slept, taught, and ate in a small, three-bedroom apartment in a Burmese neighborhood.…
