Personal Narrative: Rocky Balboa

Improved Essays
Rocky Balboa is my hero and a roll model for me. Today I had the pleasure of spending my whole day with my icon, in the city of “Brotherly Love”. We met up early in the morning at his gym for our morning workout. After we finished the workout we went out to lunch at Pat’s Dinner, where I asked him questions about his teenager days. The last thing that Rocky and I did on our day was that he took me through the city and showed me many of the places of the city that meant the most to him. I got to Rocky’s gym around 6:00am. Our warm-up included some stretches and a light jog to the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Once in the gym we did some upper body and lower body lifts in multiple reps. Rocky also taught me some basic boxing techniques.

America loves a good underdog story. When I watch the adventure of those depicted in the films Rudy and Rocky I still get chills. It takes guts for someone who is small in stature to stand up to an accomplished, gifted athlete. Adventure after adventure, the underdog gives us someone we average people can relate to and root for. There is a reason nobody ever sides with the cliché 80’s bad guy that wears a headband and seems to always have a pretty girl under their arm.…

On September 15, I went and took part in el Grito ceremony held at the Miller Outdoor Theater to celebrate the Mexican Independence Day. I did not know what was el Grito, so I went to that event with an open mind. The show came after a long speech in both Spanish and English about the Mexican community in Houston and the impact of Harvey on the community. I really enjoy the sense of community that I experienced during that event. People came as a family or with a group of friends.…

Over the years and years spent on studying mythology, Joseph Campbell came up with the concept of The Hero’s Journey. The Hero’s Journey states that all hero’s travel in a similar path and go through many similar stages that’ll lead them to their reward. However, not every hero’s journey has to involve obstacles as in slaying a dragon or trying to save the world. In my case, I had to do nothing but trying to make it through sixth grade year. Sadly, sixth grade was the year that I faced the most challenges, real world challenges at least.…

A Hero's Journey The last month of summer before my junior year started was occupied with pondering and wondering what I wanted to accomplish during the upcoming school year. Sure, junior year sounds like a blast, filled with fun memories and friends. But it also doubles as approaching the cliff of adulthood that I would hit in two short years. Every step I take my junior and senior year will be one step closer to that ledge.…

I like to play sports that are highly self-dependent, and I have one that I love to participate in myself. That would be the sport of wrestling. The results for this sport is nearly all based on how much you want to put in to the sport. If you don't put a lot of effort into being a better wrestler than you will not get any better. The only way you can get better without practice is by getting stronger, and that is rarely enough to beat good kids.…

You might ask the meaning, or you might just tell me how much you like it and compliment the artist and ask me where I got it done or ask if I have any others. You might never see a goal as a reason to get a tattoo but Mountains are my goal. My family and I visited the Rocky Mountain National Park the summer after my Junior year in highschool.
