Preschool caught my eye because I’ve been told they were difficult because of their age and how small their attention span was. My father and mother both cried tears of joy right after I was born. Apparently, I was the only girl to have been born in that hospital that whole night/morning.…

Pascasmayo, a beachy, coastal town where the Pacific ocean kisses the shores of Peru- a town beautifully crafted with sun-reflecting water and grainy sedimentary rock, hosted thousands of tourists each year- and this year, me. It is home to perseverant street vendors and taxi drivers, everyday Spanish-slang-speaking pedestrians, Fito, our humorous, laid-back in-country representative, talented, amateur artists, and the impoverished shadows of Peru. Every Experiment group is expected to perform some kind of community service. I, excitedly expected to work with children at a local shelter- ready to play with jubilance, but instead was in utter confusion when we arrived on foot to a local soup kitchen for the elderly. A group of people from…

Additionally, this year was made special since I finally choose to stay after school and join a program that has changed my life forever and given me various opportunities. Indeed, I decided to join the chess club, also known as the only club that was big in that school year. Anyhow, to begin to understand just how enormous the change the chess club provided it is important to understand that prior to the club Esperanza Middle School had earned no trophies. Even more, the chess club was the first club that participated in tournaments that were run by the city, not to mention the fact that I was the first one to earn a trophy in one of those tournaments. Even though the chess team provided a space for me and my friends to engage it was also…

When we pulled into the parking lot of Santa Maria High School I realized it is not likely that Roberto will get away. The immigration officer told me to stay in the car and wait for him to return, and even if I wanted to I could not have gotten out since the officer locked the car and there was another in the back, who was keeping his eye on me. About half an hour later the immigration officer came back without Roberto and I heard him say "The kid went home for the day" to the officer, which gave me some hope that he would not get caught. I did my observation in Mrs. Cameron’s kindergarten class at Valley View Elementary School. I went over spring break, so I stayed for three days in the classroom and got to experience what it is like throughout the whole day. Mrs. Cameron’s classroom had five tables for the students to sit and a rocking chair at the front for herself; although, she hardly ever sat. Mrs. Cameron did not have a teacher’s desk, but instead she had a chair at one of the tables with the students. There were posters on the wall that together made the alphabet, and others which displayed vocabulary words.…
