On 07/13/2015, I, Officer Tyler Carmichael #136, was working for Wichita State University Police Department as a police officer, 1845 N. Fairmount, Wichita, Sedgwick Co. Kansas 67260. At approximately 1943 hours I was clearing a traffic stop in the 3700 block of east 21st. As I was walking back to my car I noticed a gold Impala drive past with young children in the back seat. I could not see if they were in proper restraints so I followed the vehicle. I got behind the Impala at the stop light at 21st and Mike Oatman Dr. When I ran the tag of 430GWJ it came back with no registration or insurance information.
I conducted the stop in the 4500 block of east 21st. I approached the vehicle and introduced myself and the reason for the stop. The driver immediately said it was not his car and was just picking up kids from football practice. I asked him if he had a driver's license and insurance I could see. I took his information back to my car and began to run it into my computer. I located that the tag did not have any registration or insurance. I checked the VIN and it did match up with the vehicle I had stopped. I also found Aaron was driving on a revoked KS DL. I had dispatch assign a case number for the stop due to the traffic infractions. I returned to the vehicle and explained to Aaron he was not going to jail because he was up front with me.
