Personal Narrative: Reducer-Augmenter Scale

During my life I have gone to the doctor’s office for many reasons like to get shots or to give blood. Now the normal person would go into the office get the shot or give the blood, get the area sanitized, and leave to go home. In my case though I go into the office, take the shot or give the blood, and take the rest of the day to recover from the event. I never liked shots or giving blood in any situation. In my life I always forewarn people that I will seem okay after the event, get up to leave, pass out, experience a mini seizure, and slowly recover from the situation. Through all of that experience and many others, I don’t take pain that well. Within the “Reducer-Augmenter Scale” the score was pretty much in the middle of the scale but I lean more towards the reducer, or low side of the scale. Earlier in life I used to complain about everything that bothered me from tripping down stairs to hitting my funny bone. As life goes on I have gotten better with tolerating more pain. Now I am able to tolerate having a metal pole hit my head from color guard, or a girl fall on me from a stunt that went wrong in cheerleading and be able to shake it off and move on. So I …show more content…
Biologically when I get a bacterial infection or virus depending on the day I can’t tolerate the effects of this, or I can try to move throughout my day. Psychologically, some days when I’m sick I notice every part of me that hurts, but other days I take the medication and move about my day. Sociocultural comes into effect with what I surround myself with or try to do on the days that I’m sick. When I have a low tolerance I usually stay in bed because I don’t like how the lights, sounds, and common things in the environment since they tend to bother me. However on my better days I could get up and do some homework, while trying to accomplish tasks like cleaning or

Question 9 (National Assessment Program, 2016) was meet with eagerness and great confidence in my abilities. Although previously I have considered algebra as an overall topic, a weakness it was written as a step by step word problem. Being very straightforward to read and interpret, I was able to recognise meanings of all operations in both worded form and the alternative equivalent expressions. This allowed me to select the correct expression required and also demonstrated the ability to be an effective problem solver, keeping the expression clear and simple to avoid confusion (Morrison, 2006).…

In the textbook on page 61 it is stated that “Our ever-alert brain attempts to make sense of the activity, pasting the random bits of information into a meaningful image.” After reading this sentence I was immediately reminded of a friend of mine who I will refer to as Katie in this assignment. Some time ago she spoke to me of an unusual and mysterious dream that she had the night before. She explained that her dream began with her and the whole neighborhood being locked inside their houses by fear from some type of monster that was roaming the neighborhood. After she dreamt this, the scene changed into an empty road with a kitten in the middle of the road.…

Model Personal Narrative I found out that my life was about to change and definitely not for the better. My school was closing, and beginning in September, I would be going to P.S. 278. That may not sound so awful, but here’s the thing—that’s where Clarice Sullivan was going to school, and Clarice Sullivan was troubel! Clarice had hounded me for years taunting me about every little thing. It was a little over a year ago that she had moved across town and started going to P.S. 278.…

I chose Essay #3 (Compare and Contrast) and Essay #5 (Original Argument) because after rereading them, I believe they were very well written and demonstrate my best work. Also from reading an essay early on from the year from a more recent essay, I was able to see how much I progressed on my writing skills. I believe these essays demonstrate my best work due to how I had strong arguments presented regarding the topic I was assigned. I believe in my Education: Online Versus Traditional Classes essay, I stated the pros and cons of each type of educational system and overall, gave a great idea to the reader on how each type of education plays a role in an adolescent’s life. I was a happy and successful 25 year old freshman orientation director at Oklahoma University. Freshman orientation directors have a lot of authority being in charge of a lot of the activities that go on at the school and things like that (“Sooner Orientation Weekend”). During that time, I never expected to be put in a life threatening situation. I lived life not realizing the value of life and how easily it can be taken away. People would characterize me as very reactive and not at all proactive.…

As a young girl, my neighborhood friend and I would stargaze consistently throughout the summer. We would lay on her trampoline, look at the stars, and have detailed conversations about space. While we were lying down in the palpable darkness, we would identify as many constellations as possible. Although, the main night that stands out to me, was when her father brought his telescope outside to give us a close viewing of Jupiter. That moment still affects me today since I have continued to stargaze in my yard or when I’m in the vast cornfield around my neighborhood.…

This article is, in my opinion, an example of how personal narrative can sometime confuse the author’s purpose. In order to frame her arguments she discussed her experiences with her family, and specifically how she was born a twin to a stillborn sister. She explains her families lack of coping and how her family effected her life, but I failed to focus on the overarching idea that she wanted to get out because of how distracting the stories from her personal life are. Instead found myself thinking that her story was strangely personal without much justification for why it was this way. While the point of her article, the balance between truth and respect, was somewhat present overall, the sections of personal narrative that she decided to include muddled it.…
