Internship allowed me the pleasure of working with Kimi Watanabe and her 10th grade Reading students at Sandalwood High School, the largest school in Jacksonville, Florida. Sandalwood High School opened in 1971 as a Junior-Senior high school and today educates roughly 3,000 high school students. Roughly, 42% of Sandalwood’s students are on free or reduced lunch and 56% of the students are in a minority group. Sandalwood offers its students the option of joining a number of programs, including Early College, S.A.IN.T (Sandalwood Academy of Information Technology), AFJROTC (Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps), A.V.I.D (Advancement via Individual Determination), and a Culinary Arts program. Sandalwood High School 's mission is to…
One of the most meaningful communities I’m a part of is my Castro Elementary school community, where I volunteer as a math tutor for at-risk elementary school students as part of the Buddies4Math program. Every Friday after school, I bike over from my high school to Castro, mentally bracing myself for the rowdy grade-schoolers that eagerly await me. As a math tutor, I help teach and explain concepts to my students through various math games and activities. Initially, I had wanted to teach younger students since I felt obligated to do so. My teachers have passed down so much enlightening knowledge to me, and I felt that I had a similar responsibility to disseminate knowledge, particularly to these at-risk elementary school students who haven’t…
It was March 30th, 1997. Verrado High School was an edgy and dark place to be. There were these weird people at Verrado. They act cool like seniors, but they are only sophomores. I was going to ask these kids who they were,…
On a warm sunny Wednesday I found myself walking towards the old but enormous Frank Cody High School. I recently failed classes and never received the credits. So I came undecided on my future from this point on. The thought gave me a stomach pain, sure enough I wasn’t hungry I just had eaten before the ride.…
Autobiography Paper I was born on a hot summer day on August 7, 1968 in Indio, California and lived here ever since. I went to Coachella Valley High School. After high school I didn’t really know what I wanted to do with my life so I went to College of the Desert for a year, quickly I realized that college wasn’t for me. Shortly after I drop out of college, I found out I was going to be a Dad.…
My favorite part of the day at Sinking Springs was when the walls between the classrooms opened. When the walls were open, two classes became one class. Although the sense of family was present in an individual class, opening up the wall created a greater sense of unity. Without thinking, we mixed between the two classrooms.…
A school’s library is full of wonders books and contains much knowledge for children and adults, but they can also be a doorway to a new beginning. In a small town called Cherryville there’s a small school named Cherryville Elementary School. This school has the biggest school library in the world, but of course it’s the most peculiar. On a dark drank and dreary day an exhausted teacher was in the library taking a break from his disrespectful students. He was awfully tired and ready to go on a vacation.…
December 17, 2009, one cold, chilly morning. The sky seemed covered with a layer of gray yarn; the snowflakes like the thousand butterflies flies toward the windows, some naughty hitted the one side of window glass, and some danced to the other side. I stepped into a brown building and straight to the main office. After I registered, a lady with an amiable smile, who I know laterly as Mrs. White, greeted me with a zealous voice “ Welcome to Hillside Middle School, Yiwen.” My first school day in United State was begin.…
School is like a six-hour walk on a rainy day, it’s not fun. But, when you’re surrounded by the right people it’s not so bad. Hidden Oaks Middle School, you start at seven and end at two. Five days a week, eight hours a day.…
Walking into Hemlock Creek Elementary School, I get a feeling that I do not feel at any other school. I was able to attend this school the first two years after it was built. A great number of memories have been made here by the kids heading to school. The children are kind and greet you every day.…
I was an 8th grader at St. Martin's Episcopal school and had thoroughly enjoyed the last four years of my life. The teachers were wonderful, the academics were strenuous but rewarding, and most of all my group of friends were almost unbeatable. Although we spent most of our time in the Dean's office sitting on the brown leather couch decorated with a variety of candy pillows, we truly were a good group of guys and were not looking to our final years together. Sure, we kept telling ourselves we would all get into the same private high school but deep down we knew our days left together were limited. I had done well in school over the past couple years and was not too worried about getting into a good High school.…
If my high school were an animal it would be a cat because cats always do what they want but have contentment in the things they get. Some cats are liked less than others because of their sassy mannerisms while others are liked more because of their sweet and sociable actions. A cats owner generally tries to have control of their cat but then realize they just have to let them be. I went to Curtis Baptist High School in downtown Augusta, GA. Curtis Baptist is a private christian school with an enrollment of less than 80 students in the high school.…
Natsukashii 懐 Walking along the beach, during recess hour, I would pick up seashells and set my eyes across the horizon, with no clue that I will be across the pacific ocean a few years later. My school Kinser Elementary resided next to the beach. Because of that, I would frequently wander and get in trouble, of course for leaving the boundaries of the playground. I was a curious child. Yearning for adventure, I have always desired to explore new places, travel the world, and had immense imaginations.…
As our graduation day gets closer by the day, there are different emotions that are being felt for different situations. Emotions of excitement, happiness, nervousness and sadness are the most common ones that I am currently facing during these final days as an undergraduate. I feel excitement and happiness due to finally completing a goal that has taken me so long to accomplish. Knowing that I am almost at the finish line makes me feel proud of myself for not quitting even though at one point my college career was extremely low.…
I will never fail to recall that November evening in 2006, even though I was only eight years old. It was the night my parents and I visited my maternal family at Aunt Janet and Uncle Geary’s home in New Cumberland, West Virginia. Besides myself and my parents, my maternal grandparents and some cousins were there. We enjoyed a meal that was prepared by Aunt Janet then we sat and watched television. It all seemed to be an enjoyable time, being able to see them, some of which I had not been able to see often.…
