I was supposed to leave during 5th period to go on the bus for Track and Field prelims, but instead went straight home after school ended. The race was at a late time towards the evening. I thought that I didn't need to go on the bus, because there was so much time I had before my race even started. Plus anyways, my 5th period was a computer class which I was behind on a few of the assignments, so I certainly didn't want to leave that class early.

When I got home, I told my dad to drive me later to the school where prelims was held. He agreed to take me, so he drop me off at the school that was about 20 mins away from our house. I knew he would drive me, only because my parents don't like me driving that much. He dropped me off in the parking

I knew it was prelims, but I never actually like the 2 mile. I wouldn't focus my time or effort to try to always get a faster time for it. It was a boring race which consisted running 8 laps arounds the track over and over again seeing the same thing each time around. I was wearing my Ugg moccasins, but took them to warm up. I like to always walk around barefoot, but while still wearing socks. I usually warm up with my friend. She was calling me to go onto the field with her and warm up there. She told me to hurry up so I rushed my bag to grab my racing shoes. I grabbed them and I ran towards the field, but as I was running to the field, I all of sudden stepped weird. I stubbed my left big toe the cement floor. It was hurting every step I took, so I hopped the rest to the field. I already had been limping before I stubbed my toe, because I still had A small bone fracture in my right foot from the last race I had. I then had pain on each foot. I didn't like this race but I knew this was my last race ever. I then took off my sweats and sweater to fully warm up. Then, put on my racing shoes. My shoes were light with thin material and had spikes twisted on the bottom for gripe to run faster on the track. They fit sort of cramped, so I almost could not feel the pain in my feet, when wearing

I texted my dad to have him run home and get me some Ibuprofen, and I’m sure I must have taken enough that night that my kidneys will never forgive me. When Eric came to get me to warm up, I got up and did an awkward limp to the door. He asked if I should still be running, and I assured him that I would be fine. At this point, no amount of pain medication would work, and I stepped up to the start line fully expecting to finish in last place, have Quisno find out about my injury, and freak out at me. I ended up running almost 30 seconds slower than my best time, but I still managed to finish in 5th place to help out the team.…

First and foremost I am not racist, far from it, as you will clearly and unambiguously understand shortly. One of my best friends in Elementary School was a boy named Kanod. At the age of eight I did not see Kanod as any different from myself. We both faced ridicule each and every day and were both different, on the outside at least. You see Kanod was Black…

Back in middle school I didn’t know what “Being Black” meant. I didn’t know someone could be an ethnicity. I didn’t know there was a such thing as standing up for who you were and what your ethnicity was. I guess in a way I didn’t really know who I was. It’s funny in middle and high school when you don’t know who you are or where you come from or what you do.…

My first time going to a predominantly white school, was freshman year in high school. I went from being part of the majority, in middle school, to being one of the only black students in my school. The four years I spent at Community School of Davidson, my high school, proved and diminished some stereotypes, gave me a culture shock and allowed me to grow and become comfortable around people who aren’t always like me. The school I attended is located in a semi-wealthy suburb of Charlotte, NC.…
