Personal Narrative: Racial Identity And Regional Identity

Living in America, I live in what is known as the melting pot. The melting pot is a unique blend of different cultures and ethnic groups. By being together, people get a chance to learn about other ethnic groups, cultures and so on. This unique blend and closeness has resulted in people having open minds and accepting hearts. However this does not always happen. Because there is so much diversity often times great minds clash. The influences that will be talked later on in this paper will include talking about racial identity, generation identity, regional identity, and political identity. All of the identities put together make something great, such as myself. Like me everyone else in the world is comprised of different categories that …show more content…
Race is someone's hair, skin, and eye color in other words, some one’s physical characteristics. I am Caucasian also known as white. Being in a Caucasian dominated society can come with very little challenges. Race is something that affects me on a daily basis and indeed has the most impact on my life. As you will read, some of my surrounding have made me very conscious about my skin color, how it affects me and others as well. Growing up in the lake county area I was not exposed to very much diversity, however that did not cause me to be hateful of others people, instead I was taught to always have an open heart and be accepting of other people. This outlook allowed me to prosper when I reached high school and even college as I face more diversity. The older I got I realized and learned more about the diversity around me. One thing I did not see to understand as I got older and learned about confidential issues regarding race is how hateful some people could be. At 19 years old I sat in my Spanish class being the only white girl and the rest were Latinas. As we sat in the room we went around in circles and each girl gave an awful story that they had happened to them because they were Latinas. This is not …show more content…
$15 for minimum wage, gay rights in all 50 states these are just some of the amazing accomplishments that have been made, I believe all of the things talking about previously things like my race, my age, and what region I am in have a large make up of my political identity. I believe that I fall on the more liberal side. I am more liberal because I being that the government should do its job to to protect civil liberties and as well as individual human rights. Many times the liberal side discredits the role of religion opposed to conservatives who who carry many religious ideologies with them in their beliefs. When growing up I was never raised around religion let alone really knew what it was. As I had seemed to get older I noticed people used their religious beliefs to defend their side of the argument. To me I always found this conversation to be frustrating. I think that being a liberal in 2016 will be very interesting during the election, I believe I am in a time when things are changing. I truly believe that my beliefs are what's right for the world. Being associated with the liberal party essentially at my age in my opinion is and advantage. You will find a lot more people my age who would agree with me. I consider people who are conservatives to be people who do know acknowledge the facts or science. If I were to be a conservative in 2016 in college I feel Like I just might have tomatoes thrown at

I agree with the typology that I received. Coming from a strictly conservative, middle class family, my economic views have been highly influenced by my family. I do believe I am on the republic side when it comes to increasing jobs, and lowering taxes for the middle class. I believe that the less government interference, the better. On the social side however, I believe that growing…

Race is, according to Merriam-webster.com (2015), “any one of the groups that human beings can be divided into based on shared distinctive physical traits”. One’s race is something that is usually noticed right away. Oftentimes, race has traits that are visibly distinguishable. These distinguishable traits include skin color, which is the most visible distinguished trait regarding race, hair texture, and other facial features. When individuals come from interracial marriages, which is a child born from parents of different races, these physical traits can become blurred (Healey & O’Brien, 2015, p. 16-18).…

In “Assimilation, American Style” Peter Salins distinguishes the differences between what assimilation genuinely means vs. the unreliable metaphorical meaning of “the melting pot". To give people an idea of the definition of “Assimilation, American Style," the term “the melting pot”: a society where many different types of people blend together as one. America being one of those countries that is often viewed as a melting pot, because in terms of ethnicities, religion, and different cultures, America is made up of many different types of people. America is viewed as a melting pot because even with all the various types of people, everyone has managed to come together in unity. "The melting pot" has been used on behalf of assimilation in America…

How someone identifies is a complicated matter to dissect. There are an innumerable amount of factors that play into identity, both internally and externally to an individual. The fact that culture is an integral part only adds more complexity, as many cultures are becoming increasingly integrated and globalized with other unique groups. Generally speaking, identity is usually determined, often simultaneously, on three different levels: the national level, in one’s community, and at the personal level of self.…

I have always found my own cultural identity difficult to discuss. Bell’s discussion of a lack of a sense of cultural identity, the idea of no identity was a familiar feeling, at least initially (Bell, 147). This idea bothered me, in order to decipher my identity I looked to those of my ancestors. Cultural Identity exists, at least to me as an individual and a collective, in the present and the past. I was born in Australia, my father’s side has Scottish roots.…

Race is a something that doesn’t exist in my eyes. I see look at people the same way I look at computers, we’re made of the same basic components and do basically the same thing at the end of the day. Some computers might just be everyday computer used for basic needs while others are hardcore computers used for gaming but at the end of the day they are still just computers. It was around the time I joined the track team that I noticed how stereotypical I was. I thought that the best sprinter would be black and the best longest distance would be white etc.…

As a matter of fact, teenagers develop almost all political views based off of their parent’s beliefs. In my case, I tend to get my political ideology from my father who is also a Republican. My mother, who is also a registered republican has some of the same ideas; however, I tend to side more with my father’s political beliefs rather than my mothers. From the things I hear from him I develop my own ideas about politics but have the same base beliefs. For example, my father and I both believe strongly in the right to bare arms.…

Individuals of different race, religious and ethnic backgrounds living and interacting with one another makes up what we call a diverse society. Through this interaction, individuals are allowed to share their perspectives, which then also provide them with opportunities to view things from the point of view of others. Even though a diverse society is an ideal place to live in, there are several disadvantages to it as well. Therefore, for the purpose of this essay, I will be touching on two disadvantages, namely the lack of cohesion among individuals and the loss of one’s cultural identity and an advantage, the influence of the knowledge gained from various culture practices.…

In addition, Becker illustrates the importance of looking at familiar events, because this is when one is able to gain insight on different perspectives, such as in how one becomes a marijuana user. In fact, most marijuana users do not like it the first place, but will after many tries because they would have then learned the proper way to get high. Therefore, the marijuana users have to “learn to recognize the effects and connect them with drug use and then learn to enjoy the sensation they perceive” (5). The marijuana does not just work, as users have to have a specific perception of the drug for its pleasurable effects cause the individual to want to do it again. Therefore, once the feeling of fear and distasteful taste disappears, the user…
