I remember just quitting my job as a Drum Sales woman at Sam Ash music to Pursue Selling art full time. It was the summer of 2008; I was feeling liberated, free and ready for any opportunity that came my way. A week later from leaving my job, I received a call Cijan Graves of Hypnotic Brass Ensemble asking me to Sub on drums for them. This had been a group I had always looked up to and admired creatively. That day led to many other days and I was fortunate enough to gotten to have played drums for this group. From Street performing in union square to Opening for the G Starr Fashion show, the is experience was for a short but impactful time. Through out they years they have supported my work as I support theirs and in 2014 I appeared in music

Ever since I joined band in 4th grade, people have been talking about how excited they were to join marching band. At band day in 5th and 6th grade, everyone else shared how they couldn't wait until they were a 9th grader and could finally be able to perform and play in the stands like we saw the marching band do many times. In 7th and 8th grade, we had a watered down version of marching band that only played two parades. While I was glad to get snare drum both years, the exhilaration was never there, and I came very close to not joining marching band. But against my will, I ended up auditioning for drumline in April and I got the cymbals.…

In eighth grade, I decided to audition for GMEA District Honor Band. The audition itself was nerve-racking, but I made it and was able to get fourth chair. This was one of the greatest experiences of my life because I got to spend all day studying music with others who shared the same passion as I do. Last year was my first year in marching band. At the end of the year at the school's spring concert, I was awarded the Wildcat Rookie of the Year, which was a huge achievement for my.…

I have always been interested in learning and using new ideas. Throughout my life, I have invariably drawn from my life experiences, newly learned ideas and my continuing education to help problem-solve sensibly and realistically allowing me to move forward or help others reach their goals. Although I have no formal teaching experience, in my past work and involvement in organized sports, I have repeatedly used the Progressive philosophy. When dealing with 13 & 14 year olds many situations arise such as bullying, personality clashes or simply not understanding a drill or play. I deal with these situations by asking questions to stimulate a discussion, allowing them to draw on past experiences; positive or negative, consequently allowing them to come up with a solution or grasp the knowledge they are seeking.…

With a whistle around my neck and two friends by my side, I was never more proud than being a drum major for the Clark band. There is no place that made me more joyful than in the band hall, and outside on the podium, seeing months of improvement in front of me. The Clark band will always have a special place in my heart, giving me pleasant memories, and most importantly, two new best friends, that I am proud to call my fellow drum majors. The best moment that I have experienced in marching band was last year at Wylie Invitational, our final marching contest. It was six o’clock on a Saturday morning.…

Being in percussion, during football/marching season, you’re either in Drumline or Pit. Drumline is the section of percussion that marches while Pit is the section that does not. "You just didn't have a sparkle in your eye. " Only a few weeks after my seventeenth birthday, I sat in front of a panel of adults I had once adored as they told me why they had crushed my lifelong dream. For obvious reasons, I did not like the answer. My entire life I had dedicated to performing- singing, dancing, and acting. I always had a desire to be a star someday, and when I was awarded the voice scholarship at my high school and given featured roles in the musical every year, I thought my opportunity to be a star was finally within reach.…

I joined the Chorus and the Vocal Ensemble at the high school and continued to try and better myself as a musician. My music department also offered me other musical opportunities such as festivals. I have attended several festivals such as the Lakes Region music festival and the All New England music festival. These festivals allowed me to come together with other students from different schools that loved singing and performing as much as I did. Every time I perform at one of these festivals I am overwhelmed by how beautiful music can be when everyone I am working with is just as passionate as I am about the work we are doing and also extremely talented.…

The Lesson in Quitting For the past 7 years of my life, swimming has played a huge role. Growing up, I had always enjoyed being in the water, and was one of the odd kids that genuinely enjoyed swimming lessons, no bribes required (thinking about it, I wish I had some of those kids in the lessons I teach now). Overtime, it began to feel less like a passion and more like an obligation; something I had committed to that was too late to stop. I was afraid to quit, afraid to disappoint, and trying to be dedicated to a sport I had lost interest in made me start to hate it. This year, I finally decided to drop the sport, and am now embracing the huge change it has had in my life.…

My uncle had owned two clarinets and said that he could give me one of them, so I decided to play the clarinet. The first piece I played in the band was “Can’t take my eyes off from you”, a song sang by Franky Valli. I still can recall the excitement when I first joined rehearsal. I was so impressed and got a tingle. I felt that I finally found what I can be enthusiastic about, and playing in the band became my priority.…
