Hardworking, trustworthy, selfless, determined, and helpful… I believe that I have demonstrated these qualities exceptionally throughout my high school career. A glimpse at my exquisite grades that I have kept in four years of challenging classes reveals not only my effort, but my endless determination as well. Despite all of the energy that I directed towards my own success at school, I was always willing to help others who struggled in their classes, especially in math and science. Also, I put time and effort into my extracurricular activities in order to benefit my school’s community. I painted a mural of the Mt. Hope Bridge to beautify a conference room, helped plan countless events for the entire student body, from spirit weeks to…

I walked into the familiar main entrance of the school, crossing my arms and setting my face into what I thought was an intimidating glare. Although I looked like an angry toddler, with my round face and childish glower, my attitude came across very clearly: I was not happy at all to be back at school. After getting into a huge fight with my friend group earlier that year, I was starting high school essentially friendless. It wasn’t as if I didn’t have another group of people to fall back onto.…

Midway through my first semester at Rice University, I was failing all my classes. Between my parents moving our family across the country two weeks before school began, facing a constant shortage of money due to financial hardships and struggling to form connections at my new school, I failed to fully commit to my studies. Turning my grades around began with reaching out to my father who advised me to commit to an activity I enjoyed outside of my classes. I began taking part in extracurricular activities, revamped my diet and started exercising regularly. I decided to reach out to more people, and created a support group around myself.…

When I finally was able to start on the medication it changed my life, however at that point I only had a month of high school left and there was nothing I could do to remedy my awful grades. The reason I had done so poorly was due to the copious amount of school I was always missing as a result of this disorder; thus, I was always playing a hopeless game of catch up with my work. Cheering my way to College It was a gorgeous day out at the beginning of August, I was eight years old when I limped my way into my first day of cheer practice. But first, let me go back to what happened earlier that day. I was with all my friends playing on a swing set in my friend 's backyard, when I realized I didn 't know where my phone was. I panicked when I was on the swing, picked my tennis shoes up off the ground, and sprinted inside to get my phone. As I ran, I stepped on a huge nail in the yard, my shoes went flying, and I collapsed in the grass.…
