The self-regulated learning process can be broken up into three separate processes, with the first one being forethought. This phase is when the student initially is presented the task to perform, and then how they go about determining a plan to accomplish it. From an educational perspective, this may prove the hardest step for some students. If a child is already struggling to understand the material being discussed, or perhaps they have issues like a diagnosed learning problem, it may prove challenging to get them properly motivated.
