All players in our team are 12 years old, representing the upperclassmen. It is my first time playing football, the warm sunshine after a rainy day and the flying butterflies are cheering me up for my very first try in my entire life. I didn’t get any sleep the night before, since I was so excited and was imagining how cool I would look like if I score five times and became a legend. The “plastic” blonde girl squad in our class also played. Those white girls in the squad with pink skirts, that are shorter than their butt, are “reading” me just like I’m a book. They study me from my straight black hair in ponytail, to my sports bra, to my shirt, to the black leggings that have the new laundry smelling and finally to the black, clean sneakers that I bought just for this game.

He is just a coward, a bystander that doesn’t do anything. I don’t have time to argue with those rude girls, I must prove to them that I am good at sports by winning the game. They are all racists that judge my ability by my skin color. I go back to my room and change. I run to the field as fast as I can after getting ready again with clean clothes and sneakers. I’m even out of breath when I get there. I tell myself that I need to hurry so that I won’t miss the game. I get more aggressive, and more determined after being laughed by those mean girls, I have to prove to them that Asians can do sports

Pacing back and forth, I pondered how our volleyball fundraiser was going to stay afloat. The council was distraught, unable to acquire more teams, with the tournament in two days. With our advisors and the vice principal leaning towards canceling the event, my council had two choices: get eight more teams to sign up or call off the event. I didn’t want to cancel because I knew that as Junior and Senior year approached, we needed more money to fund our proms and class trips.…

In the article titled “Face-Off on the playing Field,” Judith B. Stamper explorers the issue of female athletes competing on traditional boys’ sports teams. The author also reports that some male athletes are uncomfortable having physical contact with girls. Some boys feel that it is wrong or ungentlemanly to be aggressive toward girls.…

In sixth grade, I wanted nothing more than to make Lusher’s middle school flag football team. I had dreamed of being on the team from the very first day I heard about it; all of my friends were trying out with me; and we had grand plans for a year of non-contact, semi-athletic exertion ahead of us. Having been anxiously awaiting the lunch period when the team roster would be revealed, I was thusly dismayed, disappointed, and disheartened when my name was not one of the eighteen posted on the PE office door. My mother, in all her eternal wisdom, saw a way out of the pit of despair I had sunk into: Lusher was starting an Academic Games team, and she thought I might enjoy playing. I was more than somewhat hesitant; she was more than somewhat…

As I walk onto the football field for the first game of the season I feel the cool air rise up my spine. I feel the energy from my team as we form together as one, we stand in the corner of the field ready to run out. Our helmets give off a brand new polish since we haven’t used them that much, they shine in the light giving us a bright glisten of navy blue and white. We huddle around and form a circle, our captains start a chant and we follow. When the announcer announces us we storm onto the field breaking the sign, when I take my first couple steps onto the turf I can feel the individual pieces of rubber start to form around my cleat, it feels like a tempur pedic bed the way my cleats sink in, as I walk onto that field for my first Junior…
