This seemingly normal scenario, in which you find and develop new friendships that appear to be fated to end in the near distant future, always concluded with me facing a period of depression. Freshman year was filled with great memories for me. One presenter said that a friendship is more like an addition to yourself rather than a piece. With this statement, I realized that I didn't need those friends to feel whole because I already was. Furthermore, it allowed me to understand that the memories were more important than the longevity of the

Throughout all of my years in school, I have struggled to keep friends or simply find a suitable friend group for myself. This came to my attention in recent years when I met a girl that I knew would change my life. Grace Puffer and I had been acquainted with each other for most of our lives, a normal occurrence in a small town, but it wasn't until our choir director sat us next to one another in the front row of our ensemble that I really got to know her. For most of that year, Grace and I were only what you would consider "school friends" until a situation of dire need arose. In July of 2016, Grace Puffer called me desperately asking if I would be a character in a play she was directing as part of her senior project.…

When people talk about friendships they may only see it one way. Annie Dillard explained to us [the reader] that” [we] should open up [our] eyes and see the world from a different view” (Annie Dillard). In friendships people may only see certain things for example; all the misunderstandings and disappointments or even let-downs. Some people may have lived a certain way for so long that all they had in life were disappointments where nothing worked out with anyone and they never could get anything right in a relationship.…

We all listened to the same bands, loved the same teen heartthrob, and all had a similar personality. It took losing a core group of friends of mine transitioning into freshman year to show me that it’s okay to be your own person. I will say freshman year was a huge struggle for me to go through without being friends with the people that I had grown closest to in the 8th grade and years prior to 9th grade, but in the long run it has benefitted me more than I could have ever imagined that year.
