Portfolio As I started Thomas Nelson, I was a student fresh out of high school. When I started college, I wasn’t nervous at all and I was willingly to start something new so that I could have a career. However, it would mean that I’ll have to take like different classes to accomplish myself for that career. I would end up focusing more for college then I did in high school because college is more higher level and serious. I found joy in getting my hands messy with the paint and then transforming a white piece of paper into a something more than that with a rainbow of colors. In school, I always made sure to take all the possible art classes that were available and would fit my schedule. I also began to get more in involved in after school clubs such as the National Art Honor Society and the SmART Club where we did several art projects every week. A weakness that I have is that I do not know how to say no to individuals that ask me for help since I love to help people. It is important that I learn to say no when helping others gets in the way of me accomplishing my tasks. It is important that I do both, but not when I run the risk of not meeting my deadlines and me staying late hours after work to get my work done. It has not been an easy task saying no, but I am learning to be okay with saying no because it is important that it does not interfere with my responsibilities.…

Polished Brief Have you ever wanted something so bad that you thought it was necessary for your life to go on, for me that something was a pet dog. At the age of seven I was begging my parents to get me a puppy for about a year, the conversations usually sounded like this “ Hey mom and dad I was wondering if I could get a puppy this year for my birthday?” and they would reply “ I don’t know son a dog is a huge responsibility, I don’t know if you are ready for this yet.” then I would storm off all angry, because I did not get the answer I was looking or hoping for.…

I believe that my personal background, and my success despite the adversity that I have faced is an essential part of who I am. The first of my struggles came from being born to two teenage parents without at least a high school education, and although my mother went on to get a GED and to college my father did not. Many people in my family had issues with substance abuse and addictions including my father. Although, I was raised by my mother and grandmother, my father’s actions and behaviors negatively impacted my life. My father was verbally and mentally abusive to the people around him, especially when he used alcohol.…

When I think about the boy who I was growing up, the young adult I am today, and the man I plan to be in the forthcoming years, one aspect of my life stands out to me far more radiantly than anything else: my culture, my skin, my identity as a Bangladeshi-American. There aren't many clubs or organization for Bangladeshi Americans such as myself. Make no mistake, there are certainly events for Bangladeshis living in the United states, many that I have attended due to various entreaties from my parents. These are event where the only language spoken is one that I barely speak (Bengali), the only music conversed about is that which I don't listen to or understand, and the only events discussed happen in another country that I have spent only a…

There are a couple of obstacles that have played a major role in me becoming who I am today. I've had naysayers trying to negatively influence my thoughts, and crush my dreams by saying that said I will never amount to anything, or that I should give up on my dreams and get realistic with my goals. A couple years ago I was a completely different person. I was out of shape physically, my academic performance was very poor, and I had a terrible attitude. I improved greatly in athletics and my academic career.…

This portfolio in the making for the past 8 weeks has really shown me that my voice is both unique yet very narrow in creativity. The way I look at my past writings tells me that I am into one large open genre: Fantasy. I feel that stories like these are influenced by other stories or games. For example my “Tale” story was going to turn out as a twisted version of “Alice in Wonderland” series, but due to the lack of time and struggles of giving the meaning behind the story it was shortened to just one bit. Both of those pieces so far have definitely been leaning towards that category of fantasy; however I hope to be able to reach to another type of story that is beyond my normal voice when it comes to writing.…

The personal quality I most value about myself is my passion. Ever since I was a child I have done everything I do with shear passion. As of now I have been a cheerleader for five years and plan to continue next year.…
