The Trampoline It was September 2005, I just woke up and we just got a new trampoline. I was so excited to go play on it, but I had school for just about two days until the weekend. Once the weekend came we all played on the trampoline, and when I say all I mean my brother and six to seven other friends. A few weeks after we bought it one of my friends little brother wanted to play on the trampoline, so I said sure go ahead.…
I Corinthians 9:24 states, “Do you not know that those who run a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you obtain it”. This Bible verse has had significant meaning to me particularly while running track in high school. Track is a sport that requires hard work, determination, speed, focus, and self-discipline.…
Then one day at practice on my last vault I had to do a round-off onto the table and flip off. When I was at the board I tripped in the middle of tumbling, and as I put my arm to the ground I heard a popping noise in my elbow. I did not think anything of it until…
It Follows Me Feel the cold wind frosting your ears, see the existence around you rushing by in a blur, and imagine the ground rising up to meet you. Visualize the world spinning away while waiting for it to come back. Experience the sharp pain of falling, which will make you strive for the satisfaction of perfection.…
So it all started when my best friend from my old school asked me if I wanted to go with him to this big trampoline place in St. Louis called Sky zone with his family. First we went there and we had a certain time to be there so we all went out to eat to Steak n Shake. Then we all ate and ready to go. We had to take off our shoes and socks and put on special orange grip on the bottom socks. The place was pretty big.…
Kaleena Siers Ms. DiSalle ELA7 asfkgsubc I was in my dad’s white pickup truck slowly making my way to gymnastics practice. All I had been thinking about was trying my roundoff back handspring since I woke up. I had just stopped doing physical therapy for my achilles and was really worried about trying my new flip. I kept thinking in my head how things could go drastically wrong.…
Roller derby When I first started derby, I got killed. Girls from ages from 10-17 years old were crashing into me. I was 10 and had no skill at all. At practice we had to wear a lot. I had black Riedell skates, a blue helmet and mouthguard.…
In my life time I always been successful and unsuccessful but, one event that I consider to be very unsuccessful was when I didn’t push myself as much as I should have in Cross Country varsity race. I consider this to be one of my biggest failures because I didn’t force myself to keep up with the guy in front of me nor, did I force myself to keep up even with my teammates. I suffered in that race and questioned myself “Why am I doing this? Why do I even run?” I was morally and mentally crushed during this race and it just made me feel even worse when I found out during the race that I was in last place in the entire time I was racing.…
Snowboarding Imagine walking outside in the winter time feeling a cold breeze come across your face when you come in contact with the crisp fresh air. As I step out of the ski lodge into the cold air, I get a spectacular view of the snow capped mountain. The snow sinks in as I step, it’s almost like walking on a cloud. I begin to get anxious as I walk down the icy slope to begin my first ever snowboarding lesson.…
Snowboarding I looked up at the huge hill with my snow pants, coat, gloves, boots and hat. My new orange and yellow digital Camo snowboard was in my hand. As I stared in stun at the hill, I thought it might be quicker to fly to Mt. Everest and climb that then climb this hill.…
I was cleared from both my doctor and physical therapist to compete once again. My team and I walked across the gym to our next event, the vault. Like my front handspring, I had practiced this hundreds of times. All I had to do was run down the runway, jump on the springboard, and use the power from the springboard to flip over the vault. It is the same concept as a front handspring, but with a giant spring board that gymnasts use to get over the vault table.…
Failure Happens In the sixth grade my father dragged to a wrestling practice at Milwaukie High School for the youths league. I was ecstatic about the whole thing even though I didn’t know a single person at the practice. I met the coaches who were great at understanding that I didn’t know much about wrestling perse but knew a lot about grappling because I had done jujitsu before I had gone to any wrestling practices. Something no one knows is that after the first practice to see if you really wanted to wrestle the coaches came up to me and said “Your name is Ricky right?…
Powder Buzzz, Buzzz, Buzzz. As my alarm went off, I thought to myself great another day of school with the same dull schedule. I leaned over to my bed side table to turn off what I thought was my alarm. As I tried to shut it off, I realised it was no alarm. It was a weather report.…
I think it made it especially hard that I hadn’t been that into the sport from the start, but on top of that there was also the factor that I didn’t really have anyone to disappoint if I wasn’t performing my best. Looking back at it now, I know that I underperformed a lot, and didn’t try as hard as I probably could have. Taking into consideration that this had also been a very busy time in my life, I had looked at it as though, if the I was the only person who would lose if I didn’t do well, then it was a small…
As I was reading a book about figure skating I got from the library one day, I turned to a page titled “Advanced Jumps”. I was about twelve, and I was not nearly ready for most of the jumps on that page, especially the second hardest one, a lutz jump. I had seen a lutz before, and I knew that it was the second hardest single jump besides an axel, which has an extra half rotation. I had never even done a single jump before, but I immediately wanted to try a it, because I had always wondered what landing a “hard” jump felt like, and besides, I had a lot of free time on the ice because I did not have very much to practice yet. I told my mom and my coach that I wanted to try a lutz, and they both agreed, and my coach even said she could help me…
