Personal Narrative: Polarized Thinking

Decent Essays
Polarized thinking is conceiving of thinking as absolute opposites such as good or bad, right or wrong, or male or female. As this vocabulary indicates, some words separated people for gender by how the person call his/herself. In English, there are Mr. or Mrs. to show the person’s gender. In my language, Japanese, has a lot of words which separates people’s gender. One day in my elementary school life, one of my girl classmate suddenly stated to call herself with a pronoun which indicated only and totally for boys. I do not know the reason why she started it, but I was shocked and I felt special about it. I, then, realized that there must be no rule how people call themselves. But at the same time, I felt awkward that my girl friend call herself

I can honestly say I have never really looked at Critical Thinking the way I see it now. Weak critical thinkers lack the ability to look at things from different points of view being true or not true. Strong critical thinkers have the ability to see things, and question every angle of their way of thinking, and come up with a theory or realistic view or stand point on that topic or discussion. The quality of critical thinking, I feel I am a strong critical thinking! My best quality is Intellectual courage: the willingness to face and fairly assess ideas, beliefs, or viewpoints to which they have not given a serious hearing, regardless of one's strong negative reactions to them.…

Life is simply perspective. Some say that you have your whole life to do something, while others will argue that life is short and you should enjoy it to the full extent of it’s worth. You can look at something as exquisite, or atrocious. It doesn’t change what it is, but it changes your reaction to it. No matter how sure you are about the morality, someone else could view it differently.…

To the ones who believe asking, “What are you?” is a valid conversation starter, I am multiracial and proud, but to simplify my ethnicities to others when asked, I identify myself as Asian. I was stereotyped because of how we are perceived in media and society. I spent years cowering in my own skin because others made me believe I was not Asian because of the size of my eyes, the color of my hair, and my personal interests. I was ashamed of what I looked like since I was convinced it embodied who I am as a person.…

I know I am a workaholic and I am trying to get away from this I am learning to delegate and put my foot down, especially saying “No”. I know I have always felt satisfied when I kept doing more and endlessly tiring myself. I know I have been encouraged by my own self to be me, to be straight with people and with my own self; my own wants and feelings rather than crooked and covert. In this manner I am learning to understand what I want and possibly how to get it.…

Where do I see myself five years from now? I haven’t ever been asked this question before so it never occurred to me to actually sit down and think about it. I’m seventeen years old so at my age kids don’t really think about the future and where we see ourselves five years ahead. When I was a teenager I worked in a donut shop. It so happened that the place was sold to a family and was not a corporately owned. In the hope of saving money, they decided to cut labor and asked the hostess’ to do all the cleaning, including the washrooms. The age I was at cleaning was not my cup of tea, therefore, I made it clear to the owners I will do everything else, but clean the washrooms, as I don’t even do that at home, and my mom wouldn’t even let me. The owner’s reply was, “you people should be used to that kind of work, what do you mean you can’t do it,” and a whole lot of other inappropriate things that I won’t get into.…

The best way to understand how your mind works is by understanding your thinking style. Once you figure out which thinking style works best for you, you can apply it to every day life and perform better in everyday tasks. Before taking the quizzes for thinking styles, I predicted I 'd score highest in the following: executive, hierarchic, local, external, and conservative. I made these assumptions based on my everyday life. I looked at my study habits, my organizational skills, my relationship with friends and family, and my view on life in general.…
