Personal Narrative: Playing Basketball

Growing up as a kid, I wasn’t into doing activities. I would always be sitting inside playing on my game console while my older brother would be playing outside every day. He would be playing all the different sports like football, soccer, running, even basketball. He would be playing basketball the most also this is how my brother got me into playing the sport I love now.
Around the age of six, my brother would always come up to me saying, “Arish let's go outside to play some basketball.” I would always say no because I wouldn’t like to do any outdoor activities. He approached me saying, “You ready to to get in shape?” I was already walking outside picking up the basketball. This was the first time I ever touched a basketball, I started to deliberate, “How could playing this be so fun and interesting? Then my brother came out and started to teach me the basics about basketball. How to dribble the ball, how to do a simple crossover, how shoot a lay-up, even how to shoot a jump shot. So after about an hour just repeating the same drills over and over I started to actually like doing this. We would be playing one on one after he trained me from the beginning. He would always beat me every day we played, but I knew each time we played I was getting better every day. Every time we played because I would start to reduce the score little by little. We had shooting drills, fast break drills, then the five on five basketball game. So whenever I was playing, I just kept thinking what coach told me to do. I was shooting the ball amazingly, making exceptional passes, even playing marvelous defense. After tryouts were over there would be a list for the next day in the coach's office. I was truly nervous to go to school to check, but my friend sent me a picture and my name was on the list. I was the happiest person ever alive.
Overall, my brother helped me become the person I am today. Now I have changed my lifestyle into school, eat, play basketball, go to sleep, and repeat. I am grateful to have an amazing brother because of him, he showed me a different way of life. Hopefully I will be successful in this sport and make my family proud of what I love to
