Personal Narrative-Play Tennis

Improved Essays
Seeing my peers play tennis got me interested to join and although I was mediocre at first, I improved by applying my coach and friends’ advice. There were times I wanted to quit because I plateaued, but I stayed. I fell in love with my team because I finally found my place of belonging. I could not let my family down after all of their encouragement. After several practices filled with sweat and pain, I made it to varsity. I learned that winning a tennis match is all about mentality. I had to constantly push myself or the opponent could easily capitalize on my mistakes. Just like in a match, tennis taught me to be patient and accomplish each goal point by point.
I was hesitant to join cross-country because I would have been the heaviest person

The game of golf is almost more mental than it is physical. Having the ability to control one’s thoughts and emotions can turn good players into great ones. Many players learn how to play the game physically, but cannot ever make a leap towards better golf due to their actions and thoughts on the course. When playing bad, all it may take is a change in mindset or attitude to get one back on track. Sometimes it’s a little change in swing thought that will turn one’s round around.…

The experience that I went through and that I would like to share was when I played golf in the beginning of the year. I was fine managing my schedule during the first week or two of school, but then I started getting more and more homework as the weeks went on. I had a hard time keeping up with my school work and playing golf. I practiced every day after school and I didn’t really have any time after school to do my homework. Playing golf took up basically all of my time because I played it 5-7 days a week between practicing with the school team or practicing with my golf instructor/coach.…

I thought this game is fun, but I would never love it. My mom and I would try to go play every weekend and after awhile I began to get the hang of things. The next summer my mom enrolled me into the one week mini camps ran by my future high school coach. Those few summer camps began the spark of interest in me and that is where I began to want to play tennis more than just in the summer. I learned that I was skilled enough to succeed and getting more practice would evolve myself.…

As an eighth grader on a sports team, I was one of the youngest players on the golf team and there were a lot of high hopes for me because I had been golfing ever since I was very young. The previous year, there were many seniors that graduated and I actually made the varsity team. There are a total of five players from each school that make it to the the State Tournament if they qualify as a team. All season, I was the number five golfer which meant that I could be replaced at any time if I started to struggle. Knowing this scared me a lot because I wanted to impress the older golfers and I didn't want to let them down.…

I was playing lacrosse on a warm spring day in Glen Ellyn. I could feel my adrenaline spike, accompanied by my heart beating out of my chest. We finally had the ball on our side. The first place team that happened to be our school’s arch nemesis, had selfishly kept the ball to themselves so far. Every second we had possession was precious as we knew the opportunities to score would be few.…
