Personal Narrative: Pink Plas-Crete Masks

Decent Essays
I read the invite, I followed the rule, I put a simple looking pink plas-crete mask over the top half of my mahogany brown facial flesh and chipped chrome parts. People recognized me from behind, the mask did nothing but make my left eye twitch from time-to-time when it reacted to a light flash or silhouette it thought was questionable and dropped its shield for a technical heartbeat. Too many corporate security hacks wandering the crowd to let my own system think, I prefer to rely on Fred for my threat assessment in a crowd, but I told him to mingle and have fun. Haven’t seen him since arriving.
Not that I was worried about trouble at a VIP orgy like this. I’m six foot four and just about solid metal and muscle with a light infantry frame.

One of the principle attributes of American Ethnic Literature is that it rarely shies away from the difficult topics, choosing to focus predominantly on the way that things actually occurred and the overall nature of the real history of issues at large. In American Ethnic Literature, authors often use their experiences to reflect the principle thematic element that they wish to portray or to show how the relevant social issue affected people like them by showcasing how it affected them personally. As such, in many cases, historical information is used to form the narratives for stories that are either shaped around the lives of the authors or are built around experiences that those like them had to undergo over the course of their lives. This is thematically evident in “Zoot Suit” by Luis Valdez, “Middle Passage” by Charles Johnson and “Drown” by Junot Diaz. The story “Zoot Suit” by Luis Valdez illustrates the prevalence of this issue first, by structuring a narrative around a prominent act of discrimination in the United States, known as the “Zoot Suit Riots.”…

In Jennifer Price’s “The Plastic Pink Flamingo: A Natural History”, Price shapes the text into her view of the American culture. Through her use of words and context, we see that Price does not have a good deal of respect towards it. First of all, if a writer reveals how they feel about the United States through talk about pink, plastic flamingos, I’d have to say they don’t think too highly about our culture. Flamingos started growing in popularity ever since Miami Beach’s first grand hotel was named “The Flamingo” in 1910.…

Everyone is talking about how you were caught sneaking out of your room and talking to El Patron’s clone, Matt. I wanted to write this letter urging you to re-evaluate the situation. Some people call Matt an eejit, but clones are much worse than eejits. Eejits are predictable; you can be certain they will act as they are programmed to do. Clones, however, have an evil mind of their own.…

I recently went to an AA meeting at the Lamb Center in Fairfax, Virginia. It is a small center and by approaching the center I could tell that the meeting would be held in a smaller circle than what my classmates told me from their experiences. Even though I am a very relaxed person, when it comes to meeting total strangers I had my reservation on what to expect. We were instructed to be sitting in the back and basically just observe; yet I could see that “hiding” in the back at this place was an impossible task. After I parked my car and approached the door and elderly gentlemen approached me and asked if I was here for the meeting.…

In to Kill a Mockingbird several people are impacted and shaped into who they are by Maycomb County.…

In a world of nauseatingly overpriced theme park tickets, nothing is more refreshing than the words “free admission,” a phrase written on the entrance sign at the 35th Annual Strawberry Festival held at Merritt Estate Winery in Forestville this past weekend. There’s no catch either. After free admission, guests enjoyed more free activities such as live music from vivacious rock bands like Buffalo’s favorite Strictly Hip, wine tasting, and a classic car show hosted by Lake Shore Street Rod Association.…
