Personal Narrative: Phil Wolf

Improved Essays
Have you ever had that one co-worker who pushed you to do your best every day? Phil Wolf has inspired me to work hard, follow my dreams, and push myself. The first time I met Phil I was very intimidated by his handle bar mustache and cowboy accent. To add to that it was the first time I ever had to meet a new co-worker. He became an important part in my life my first summer job before college, he even made me want to apply myself in every aspect that I can.
He was towering over me as I walked up to him to introduce myself, I could feel my hand shaking as I reached out to grasp his hand to introduce myself. After the quick introduction it was time for us to start the big job of the day, which turned out to be one of the very first opportunities

I remember one time Phil and I were going to put in posts so we could hang a sign right before entering town. We found the best spot to put the posts, so we dug the holes with the posthole digger and began setting posts. Getting posts set correctly is a very tedious task, and is not fun because of a lot of the manual labor it takes. This particular day Phil’s neck was hurting him extremely bad. Because of this I knew that I had to do most of the work and I was more than willing to do so. After the first 16 foot-long pole was into the hole we back filled it and I began tamping the dirt. To do this particular tamping I was using about a half inch rebar to pack down the dirt that is in the area about three feet around the pole. Thrusting this half inch rebar trying to pack a three feet area all around the pole is very tiring but it had to be done. And there were still two other poles to put in. Not only that, but there are about a total of three layers that need to be packed the exact same way the dirt was pack before. All in all I never want to tamp poles ever again. Persevering through tamping poles has given me an insight on what it’s like to push myself to get jobs done. Pushing myself has proven to be beneficial, mostly because when I push myself I get more out of the occasion. Anyone can relate to the statement, “You get out as much as you put

Larson gave great detail on how hard it was to work for 17 days straight in the scorching hot South Dakota summer. He described how they had to use tools like picks, shovels, jackhammers, and eventually a skid loader to remove most of the sediment surrounding Sue. After most of the surrounding sediment was removed, Larson and his team had to use finer handheld tools to uncover the bones. This showed that paleontologists work astonishingly hard to uncover their fossils.…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…

My experience with the after school book club at Madison Elementary today was an exciting yet my patience was tested by a seven year old little boy named Jose. Today I was excited to see if my group would enjoy the book, “Where the Wild Things Are,” due to the fact everyone agreed they enjoy reading adventure books. Consequently, one of my group members, Jose, had already read the book and watched the movie and let the whole group know it was “boring.” Already bored he instantly lost interest in the book and the group and was making it known by distracting the other group members around him. Usually his partner in crime, Gilbert, agrees with him and goes along with him but this time was different and he ignored his friend because he was actually…

The moral of the Boy who Cried Wolf, although true, can sometimes be twisted around. When I was thirteen, I attended a girl’s camp, perfect for the average girl because it banned the phones, makeup, and fashion, the three things teenage girls dreaded the most. So, with nothing better to do during the long days in camp, we were forced to do the one thing usually reserved for boys- pranking the leaders. I guess a break from phones really did do us well because we were cynical and ingenius in all our prank designs- shaving cream on the toilet, pretend tarantulas inside bagels, a nice wet seat for them wherever they sat, but most importantly, spiders.…
