Every child craves the taste of defiance towards their parents. Adolescents come to an age where their parents advice doesn't seem to influence them as much as it used to. When I was younger, I was always extremely well behaved. My parents friends would always remark about how I was so polite. When children are so used to doing the right thing, being disobedient is exhilarating, even if it's for the simplest of offenses.

Phaethon was the son of Helios, a Greek God who was responsible for pulling the sun across the sky everyday. Phaethon was very proud of his father and aspired to do the same thing when he grew older. He hoped that some day soon, his father would let him ride in the golden chariot by himself. He imagined himself holding the reins of the chariot and feeling the heat of the sun beating against his back as he dragged in around the world. After a long time of begging and pleading, his father finally let him take the reins by himself.

I grew up watching any kind of tv shows that I wanted because my parents didn't really seem to care what I watched. When I was five years old, I sat down and a movie started to play on the tv. I can't remember the title, but I can just recall my mom walking in and telling me that the movie was too scary for me. Being a child, I obviously thought that I could handle the movie even though my parent didn't think I could. Just know that I wasn't supposed to do something made me want to do it even more. So, once my parents went to sleep, I switched the tv on and put the movie

How does one become “immortal”? To answer that you’d have to pick a definition of immortal. For me that definition is to be remembered for many years to come, most likely not by millions of people, but by a few. In reading the Epic of Gilgamesh something dawned on me, what would I want to be remembered for if I died today? Seeing as I’ve never truly considered it, it took me a good while to determine the things I would want to be written into the history books for.…

There are many books out there that talk about adolescents and why they may act the way that they do. “Why do they act that way?” by Dr. David Walsh, doesn’t just lay out all of the facts like some other books might. Dr. Walsh takes the information that he has collected and connected that to the experiences that he has from being a father to adolescents, being a teacher, and being a school psychologist. It is by adding this personal element to the information that makes it so connectable to other parents and even to teachers so that they can apply what they have learned to their own adolescents. “Why do they act that way?” is a great book for people who are interacting with adolescents for the first time because, the information and examples…

Parenting of Parents “Behind every young child who believes in himself is a parent who believed first.” by Mathew Jacobson. Positive parent-child relationships provide the foundation for children’s learning and to maintain that parents should have a good understanding between them. “My Father’s Life” by Raymond Carver and “The Rake: A Few Scenes From My Childhood” by David Mamet both author’s briefly discussed their parent’s relationship with each other and with their children. According to me that was not a healthy relationship in both stories, I strongly disagree with that kind of behavior with children and between husband and wife.…

Growing Up as a Rebel Every child goes through a point in their life where they want to rebel against their parents, usually in their teen years. The kid will go to parties, smoke, and try to fit in with others since they feel their parents aren’t as accepting. Any child will go through this whether rich or poor. Essay “If you want your children to keep their feet on the ground, put some responsibility on their shoulders,” - Abigail Van Buren Parents are the reason for the illegal actions of their child. This is because some parents do not take the time to talk to their child, letting them know what is right and what is wrong, these children will later grow up into dangerous and immoral criminals. There are people who neglect their children and do not pay attention to them, and so the child will not know or learn what is right and wrong. This is why parents should be legally responsible for their children's actions because they are their child’s biggest influence, they should teach them, and penalizing will make both parents and children more responsible. When children are growing up they imitate or act like their parents, so when that parent is irresponsible, reckless, and cruel the child will most likely become that.…

Raising children has never been easy task; there are lots of doubts and concerns from a parent when considering what actions they should take regarding their child. All though it may not be easy, it is all much simpler with a child seeing as they still idolized their parents and believe that everything that they do or say must be right. But what happens when these children get older and begin to form a sense of individuality? They no longer wish to do as their parents say, in fact, it is said they enter a “rebellious stage”. When they no longer see things through their parent’s eyes but now begin to form their own identity?…
