WHOOP! WHOOP!WHOOP! The police cars came rushing down the streets from every angle. Pedestrians were distraught by the pandemonium. An enormous nitric acid truck laid on its side and the driver dripping blood from his forehead. At the time, I was five years old I remember right before it happened a blind elderly man crossing the road on Monument Blvd about to get hit by a truck. Instinctively, I ran out in front of the truck and pushed the blind man out of it’s path. However, some of the nitric acid had spilled from the confinement of the truck when the driver had tried to swerve around the man. The driver spun out of control and the crashed to the ground. The streets had begun to get congested and build up around the scene. The acid was everywhere, some of it got in my eye I didn’t realize it, at first, but when my father had found me lying on the ground. He realized what happened and told …show more content…
“I’m here, sorry I got distracted for a moment,” I replied.
“So, how are you? My lawyer said had been adopted by a family a few years back and it got me thinking. Maybe, I could adopt back and can come live with me California,” my father pronounced.

At least three times a year, I would sit and cry on my bed hoping he would come and sweep up from the convent. Though, it never happened instead the Pulaski family came, swept me up and provided me with a lovely room and all of my needs and

All the blood my heart was pumping it was going directly my ears and during that moment, I did not know what to expect and all I could think was about how to make it through this day. I never asked for any of this. I left friends and my family behind to start a new life, an opportunity for education that I did not have in my hometown of Bani in the Dominican Republic. I was still in shock, preparing myself mentally while my sister put her coat on before getting on the bus. When we arrived in William H. Ohrenberger Elementary, we were introduced to the principal and my first thought was: “Oh my god, my nightmare will start at this moment”.…

I gagged and shivers ran down my spine, I was going to puke I thought. I ran searching for a place to throw up, i couldn't hold it anymore and I threw up brown material close to my back door, the taste disgusted me, it tasted like shit. I wiped my mouth with the sleeve of my Tupac hoodie, I loved that hoodie, but at this point I really didn't give a damn.…

“Can you believe we actually made it?’’ That’s what I asked my sister when we crossed the Brooklyn Bridge in our car. The lights, the people, the buildings, all so intriguing. We even saw the Statue of Liberty our first 5 minutes in the city. I couldn't help but to stick my head out of the window and breathe in that New York air, which was not a very good idea because there was trash a couple feet away from the car.…
