Overcoming the Obstacles of Junior Year My junior year of high school was a real struggle for me. It was the most trying and challenging year of my entire school career. I started my junior year at a new school: Beech Grove High School. Beech Grove High was very different from any school that I had ever attended. Before Beech Grove, I attended Arsenal Technical High School. I was happy at Tech High School. All of my friends were there and I was doing well in school. At Beech Grove High, my grades started to drop tremendously; I just wasn’t doing well in school. Everyone was worried about me, myself included. I had never done so poorly in school before, I was very embarrassed. When people would ask how school was I would avoid answering because …show more content…
I was trying to get my grades in better shape but for the most part they stayed the same. It was like all of the effort I was putting in wasn’t enough. Towards the middle of the school year I really started worrying about whether or not I would get into college because of my grades. At that point, I really put my effort into overdrive to try and improve my grades the best I possibly could. Instead of working at my after school job, I took that time after school to go the local library to study and get work done and stay after school for help. Although there was some progress in my second semester grades, it wasn’t enough to really change my overall GPA because of first semester grades. At the end of the year, I passed the majority of my classes with D’s. Because of that, my GPA was lower than a 2.5; my GPA has always been a 3.0 plus. I still worry that I won’t get into college but I know that all I can do is pray and continue to do the best I can in my school career: high school and college. I had a rocky junior year but at the start of senior year I had hope that I would finish high school strong and prove to myself that I can do it. This year is a lot better for me; my grades are better and I

(CHALLENGE) I really started to struggle keeping my homework in line. I was used to having so much time to organize and complete my work; but now, I had basketball practices and games after school that consumed most of my time. A lot of nights I would have mental breakdowns due to stress. My homework also became much more demanding; College Algebra got more challenging week by week, Honors English papers required more time, and U.S. History current events were due every class period. My grades started to slowly slop downward.…

The transition from High School can often times be very frustrating for students. L. Lennie Irvin opened my eyes to one of the bad habits I picked up on in High school. The habit of straying from the topic or theme could cause me to fail not only papers in English but my other courses as well. I personally had a hard time with English my first semester of college. In High school I was always at the top of my class and my teachers would tell me how great of a writer I was.…

Anxiety was my first foe. For most students, the transition from middle school to high school is the evolution from childhood to adulthood. In my case, my middle school graduation was a quick transition for another reason. The first few months of my freshman year had my parents rushing my grandfather in and out of the hospital because of his failing heart. By this point my grandfather had battled off colon cancer, 3 heart attacks, and 2 open heart surgeries. At age 74 he was not a candidate for a heart transplant but he was able to get a defibrillator.…

Growing up I was always the tallest kid in the class. Whenever class picture day rolled around, I knew that I was in the front of the line because of my height. It was somewhat embarrassing when all the boys were shorter than I, and the girls made me feel bad for how out of place I was. Not only did my height provide social awkwardness, it also administered the constant, never ending struggle of finding garments long enough. Whenever my mom or grandmothers wanted to take me back to school shopping, I made excuses of “I don’t need any more habiliments” or “I do not feel good, all of the sudden…”…
